Any experience out there with intercontinental premium cabins on Piedmont, Eastern, People Express, Western, or America West?

Piedmont was bought by USAir about the same time they started intercontinental operations in 1987. I do know Piedmont had US domestic first class before USAir did by a full two years. USAir didn't have full domestic first class until July 1989, one month before the merger was completed, Piedmont's started June 15, 1987, the same day they started CLTLGW service. IIRC, none of these carriers had what we would call a three-class service across the Atlantic. That stuff didn't start until the 1990s, long after these guys were around (except HP of course).

PI introduced Business Class service on their new 767-200ER's from CLT to LGW as noted in June, 1987. A 2-1-2 layout with multi-course meal service and full bar services with a wide range of liquors, champagnes and wines. Dinner with a hot breakfast served CLT-LGW and Lunch with afternoon meal on return LGW-CLT. Desserts were carted for service down the aisle.
Y class also got hot dinner and hot breakfast with full complimentary bar service including free champagne served with dinner.
Crews were known for their "Southern hospitality" with personable, friendly and professional service.
The LGW service proved very popular and successful, and continued the phenonemal growth PI experienced in the latter part of the 80's. It was an exciting time for PI employees, old and new.
Domestic First Class mirrored many of these features including PI logo china, and bud vases with a fresh flower adorning meal trays, and choice of entrees.
watch what you want. you may get it.
