Of All US Interntl Airlines/who's Best In F Of BF?

Mon Aug 22, 2011 1:39 am

I will always try and fly an American carrier as often as possible to help do my part to keep American carriers aloft! I am extremely fortunate given my travel budget- I often buy international C at full fare, depending on a thousand factors a ticket can range from $3,500 to even $7000. If I need to buy F it can be a lot (a lot being 2 words not alot as I see often) a lot more expensive. When I pay that much of my company's or clients money I feel I have the right to mear "perfection" in the seat ( #1 concern) service, lounge quality and food. And I always expect decent IFE. All this I expect especially if I have high status on a specific airline...

So who deserves the $7000 to $12,000 in the USA? in your opinion?

None. Considering that only two airlines in the US have International First, neither is truly anything special. If you want the best bang for your buck, International First on carriers such as Lufthansa or British Airways to Europe; Cathay or Singapore to Asia; Qantas to Australia; Emirates or Etihad to the Middle East/Indian Subcontinent are the right direction to start looking in.

Totally agree! I have been in F or C on some of the airlines you mention. LX is also spectacular in the new F or C. But I am wanting to keep the money in an American airline. I so far find the new UA F product the best. But I have never been in AA First. I've walked through F on AA, but not for years. When they upgraded to the angled flat in C did they update F too?
Also, I've heard good things about Delta's new Business Elite, an US Airways as being pretty good. However, I heard the angled flat on AA as very disappointing!

To put it bluntly, your two statements are not compatible:

Besides...Who qualifies?

Americans can and do work as crew on various foreign carriers, many of whom, in turn, spend billions on Boeing products. As an investor, I am free to inject my capital into many different carriers, including foreign ones.

Seems the only real difference in the likes of AA, UA, or DL and LH, BA, or LX is where the corporate headquarters happens to be located, and which government collects their income tax. All airlines, however, pay landing fees to U.S. airports when they fly here, and pay $13.40 tax per passenger when they depart for foreign soil.

By its very nature, air transport is a global industry, and it's past time to shed this kind of protectionist attitude. By stubbornly spending your money with "American" carriers when you have other options, you only perpetuate the mediocrity which defines those carriers' product.

It's a bit like asking "I want the best compact class car, but I'll only buy from Korea or Malaysia. Should I get a Proton or a Daewoo?" Answer: Neither, buy a VW Golf.

When compared to the competition, the terms "best in class" and "US based airlines" are mutually exclusive when it comes to intercontinental air travel.

Still, it's your money, spend them in whichever way gives you the most satisfaction.

I flew AA J once across the pond on a 767, as I had missed my BA 747 flight. My expectations were low, mostly because from what I had read on this forum.

I was very pleasantly suprised. Okay, the seat/bed was nowhere near as good as BA's and the IFE was woeful (No moving map! Hey, that's all I ever watch!) - but the service was outstanding. I'm not ageist, I don't care how old the individual crew members are or what they look like, as long as they are friendly and welcoming, and they most certainly were on this flight. Nothing was too much trouble and they anticipated my needs expertly.

The food was just wonderful - plentiful, well cooked, and excellently presented.

I would fly them again in a heartbeat. In fact, I want to do JFK to LAX in F one day.
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

Honestly I would expect UA or AA to outshine DL or US in F. Hell, they better, considering the premium you're paying to fly it.

And in fairness, how MUCH MORE can UA or AA offer in F over DL Business Elite? I flew DL in BE to SYD and found the service excellent in both directions. Why pay an F fare on UA or QF regardless if your client or company is buying the ticket. Is it just that much better? I doubt significantly except maybe for QF on a A380 but we're talking USA airlines only so I'd compare UA F only.
I love a 747 but extra money on a UA F class 747 against a DL 777? Save the $$ and enjoy the service on DL.
If you are committed to a USA-based airline only, pick one, and build status and service ON ONE unless you are mishandled rudely or find service totally lacking. Buying full First or Business class tickets doesn't guarantee superb service if you stick to your "American" airline only consideration, but you should feel that overall and CONSISTENTLY you are treated well as a customer in either class.
I don't fly DL because I vision Michele Bernstein personally preparing my "chef selection" meal, but I do feel I am treated fairly and consistently and receive great service and value for the money.....money spent by my company to fly me around. And yes, I enjoy the perks I've earned in flying 68 segments so far this year............
watch what you want. you may get it.

You need to realize the high price isn't a function of the quality of the service, but of market demand and what various airlines are willing to do to earn your business. Under my employer's corporate contracts, one of the cheapest airlines in term of CPM is AC, and yet I pick them on TATL trips whenever practical because, in my opinion, their C cabin/service is better than any North American airline's (and that goes for the transborder vs domestic leg of an itinerary too).

This being said, I think UA has the best F of any US-based carrier and CO's new BF gets the nod for best C (with the caveat I haven't flown DL in ages). Whether it's worth $7,000 or more is up to you. The way I see it, the service/comfort is never worth that much, what is apparently worth that much (to my employer, its customers, etc...) is getting me to my destination rested and ready to go, and I try to act accordingly.

Good point. I knew of Boeing or Airbus as being almost borderless, but the airline itself not so much. Im not even a protectionist - but I do feel for the employees of US carriers and wanted to put my 8k into a US carrier after seeing FA's pensions get raided and wanting to not see another Pan Am (although I attribute those things to bad management) to be honest, I have never encountered an American FA on SQ or even LH or BA that I can recall. But I guess if you count how many 747's SQ used to have and how many 777's they do have, that is a lot of money along with all the other money those airlines need to spend to land here! Thanks
