New Airlines/aircraft For You In 2011/12?

Sun Aug 28, 2011 1:40 pm

Hi everybody,

My question is, have you flew some new airlines/aircraft this year or do you have it planned? I'm not saying a new airline, just the first time you flew with it. For me it's A319 in Feb (BA), 4U and VY in Jul. For 2012, I've planned to go KEF-LIM-NRT-HKG-SYD-BKK-DXB-CAI-KEF. That would include some flights inside Australia, Peru and maybe Japan. Right now the new airlines on that trip would be:
American Airlines (Flown on Eagle, but not mainline)
Star Peru
United
Cathay Pacific
Virgin Atlantic
JetStar
Qantas
Thai
Emirates
Etihad
Egyptair
Lufthansa (Flown on Cityline, but not mainline)

And aircraft:
Boeing 777-200(ER)
Boeing 747-400 (only flown -300)
Airbus 340-600
Boeing 777-300(ER)
Airbus 340-300

What's yours?

Sun Aug 28, 2011 4:50 pm

No new airlines for me this year, and only one new a/c type, 757-300.

As for next year, too early to say, as while I already do have a trip booked on Delta for February and my trip will be on an a/c type I have flown on before (763), as even if they change the equipment on my flight, there's only two likely other a/c types for the flight, both of which I have flown (752, 753). They have put the 738 on this route every so often, but never for the particular flights I'm flying on.

Now later in 2012, depending on what I decide to do for a trip later in the year, I may be trying out a new airline and possibly a new a/c type depending on what I decide to do. I'm still at least 7 or 8 months away from making the decision on a trip for next Fall.

Have you flown on all of DL planes in their fleet? Also, what routes were you going on from NRT and JFK when you flew the 77L and 388?

Flown business class with them for the first time.
Trying economy with them for first time later this year.

Thai
Flew with them in first for the first time this year. Was also my first A340-600 flight. Flying them in economy later this year. Will be flying LAX-BKK-SYD, so an A340-500 for the first time and the 500 and 600 in one trip.

Glad some of us have had an interesting year... I have yet to fly anything but WN since last December! I'm so bored I booked ORD-MEM-BNA on DL for one direction of an upcoming trip just to mix it up a little...justified of course by saving 20 bucks.

And in December I get to do 3000 miles on COex ERJs... oh joy, oh rapture...

Only new type & aircraft for me this year is the Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters Eurocopter EC130 - which was well worth it! I did get a Mad Dog again to get there, but have flown one before.

I need to go somewhere different.... or AC to get some new aircraft in their fleet....!

I honestly don't think I ever flew Delta before this year. Flying them, I also got to fly my first CRJ900 (on Delta Connection/Mesaba).

Also first time for Horizon and the Q400.

I liked the Q400 pretty well. Comfortable for a plane that size. Didn't hate the CRJ900 as much as I expected to, but it didn't seem to handle turbulence very well. Flew the CRJ into MSP and a 757 out, and the 757 just dampened those bumps a lot more noticeably. The pilot of our CRJ left the seat belt sign on the entire flight from JFK-MSP, about 2 1/2 hours. And it needed to be on.

Luxair: CDG-LUX March 2011

Cape Air: BWI-LNS June 2011

The only new aircraft I had was on the Cape Air flight, a Cessna 402C II

I have no booked flights as of now, but I have had some flights so far this year, but not many new. Here are the few I have (that are new)

Aircraft:

A321 (Lufthansa) - An aircraft that I would relatively rarely fly, due to the lack of (but growing) presence in Australia/Asia.

Airline:

Lufthansa Long-Haul - I have traveled short-haul, but the long-haul product is really something different, so I'm counting it.

I will be going back to Norway after Christmas (January 2012), and there is a strong possibility it will be with Finnair, which would be a new airline, as well as aircraft (E-190 for the HEL-OSL-HEL legs).

New aircraft wise I have flown on most of the 'low hanging fruit' by now.
New (sub)types this year:
757-300 Condor (LPA-DUS)
An-148 (ARH-LED)
Yak-42 (VKO-RTW-VKO)
I am not in a hurry to get on new types asap like the SSJ and 787 which start(ed) flying this year.
In the next year or two I'd try to get on the following new (sub)types, the F28-1000 (LADE), Emb-135 (quite some options) and the RJ70 (last one flying very occasionally MMX-BMA), Il-96 and even contemplating going to Congo for a Nord 262.

And hoping preservation groups will organize something with a DC-8, DC-6 and An-12 or otherwise will try to get a ride on a cargobird.

I am not that much an airline collector but still always nice to gather many new names while doing so. Since january;
Augsburg, Hello, Gulf Air, Iran Air Tours, Kuwait Airways, Jet Airways, Spanair, Air Europa, Condor, Saudi Arabian, Wings Indonesia, Nordavia, Rossya, UTAir Express, KMV, Kuban, Saravia, Air Moldova.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Among others, I'm scheduled to fly on DC-10, Fokker 28 and A310 this year. I've flown on the last 2 before but hey I'm not complaining. I'm sure you can guess what country I'm going to.

With a modern fleet like that it has to be the US. Delta must have replaced the DC-9s with F-28s
