Aviation Related Things To Do In London

Sat Sep 03, 2011 10:31 am

I 'm going to be in London for 2 days. This Sunday and Monday. Does anybody have any suggestions for maybe a day trip not to far or in London itself, that would be worthwhile for an Commercial Aviation enthusiast.

Brooklands Museum would be good, less than an hour from central London. See Concorde, a VC10, Vanguard, Viscount etc plus loads of motor racing stuff if you are in to that as well.

Thank You all for the great information. That's why I love this site. It's around the world and you will 99.9% of the time get an response.

By the way for plane spotting at LHR, where would you suggest and how would I go inexpensively from Kensington.

Underground to Hatton cross, then its only a short walk to Myrtle Avenue. PERFECT for 27L landing shots.

I went to Duxford about 100 years ago, (okay, it was 1986) and there was a VC-10 there. I looked at the website and find no mention of this aircraft. Is it no longer there?

Looks like the VC10 is owned separately and therefore not listed on IWM's website.
http://www.das.org.uk/vc10.htm still lists it.

Duxford is a good visit, though there are more military types there.

If you like bizjets and lots of them with something exotic guaranteed, then spotting at LTN is great too. May need a car to get to the best spotting spot at the crash gates o nthe far side.

If you get the chance to go back to London in the future, you may want to look at the BA Heritage Centre in Waterside. You need to email ahead for a visitors pass if you don't have a BA ID, but it is worth the visit.
