United Won't Let Me Check In For UA926 Tomorrow?

Mon Sep 05, 2011 5:34 am

I'm flying SFO-FRA tomorrow (9/5) on UA926 and the online check in link leads to a page that is titled "flight status" and reads,
"Online check-in for your flight is not currently available. Please try again later or check in with a United Representative or at an EasyCheck-in® kiosk at the airport." Any UA insiders know why? Is the flight cancelled perhaps, or might this be an individual matter having to do with my ticket information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked in online for a UA international flight before? If not it may be a passport issue.

There's probably some sort of issue with your passport or APIS data. I wouldn't sweat it... a simple syntax or capitalization error can cause it. Did you book through United.com?

APIS possibly or UA may be changing either aircraft type or configuration of your aircraft which is more probable. The fact it said try later leads me to suspect the second.

It has happened to me also, though it was BA (LAX-LHR). Showed out later at the airport that I was upgraded because the flight was overbooked in Y.

UA does this randomly for both international and domestic flights. It's a security procedure, forcing you to check in at the counter where they perform an enhanced ID check. This has happened to me twice: 1st time LGA - ORD, 2nd time SFO - YVR. It's horribly annoying and limited to UA as far as I'm aware. The ticket agent guessed that this procedure is applied to less than 5% of passengers. Given how much time I spend on UA, I think it could be much less than 5%.

This has happened to me as well, on BA LHR-JFK. It was because, even though our infant had an approved ESTA, we hadn't filled out the APIS - I thought I had, but hey. (no upgrade for us   )

Most likely.

I flew DEN-ORD last month, it was scheduled to be on a 777-200 with the old configuration, 24 hours before the flight, it said that I could not check in etc. Around 10-12 hours before departure, they finally let me check in and apparently our aircraft was swapped with the new international 777 config. They also upgraded me to E+. BTW, it was N773UA which was also scheduled to fly to FRA after our flight.

I just checked via UA's app, and you're flying on the new config. 777-200! Reg is N784UA

I used UA's very cool app. Just type in your flight number under Flight Status, then it's gonna show you a bunch of information. In the bottom it says, Aircraft #

I don't know how you do it for other airlines though...
