757 Tomorrow!

Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:01 pm

Pretty excited to be going on a 757 hopefully it will be RR powered. How do the Pratt & Whitney engines compare to the faithful old Rb211?
What is the general policy now for filming on board? I just have a small handheld cam so hopefully they will be ok with it
For me the 757 is the best looking currently flying passenger liner, I would have jumped at the chance to ride a l1011 - like so many things i was born in the wrong generation! at least the engines are (hopefully) 211's

I also have a scanner, will i be able to use it on board ( with headphones obviously)

YMMV. Just ask the F/A when you get on board.

Probably not. There are only a few brands out there that produce a non-oscillating scanner. The non-oscillating is a requirement b/c without, a standard scanner acts much like a cell phone in terms of electromagnetic radiation. Here's an example of one that is OK for use in cabin: http://www.wsplc.com/acatalog/Black-Box_Airband_Receiver.html

Enjoy! I hadn't been on one for years (i couldn't even remember it!) until yesterday on LS. (Although with a 5 1/2 hour tech delay due to dodgy tyres and hydraulic lines it wasn't the best experience overall). However the flight was great, the takeoff really is powerful!

And that was coming back from FAO, which is odd because my only flight on a L1011 was coming back from FAO around 1999/2000 - it was a sub too! Operated for Air Atlanta Icelandic for Monarch

Have a safe and enjoyable flight!

Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

I love that this is exciting for people.   That's all I seem to ever fly being based in the US.

I'll happily trade you a few 757s for a few wide bodies.
