Noisiest Plane Currently In The Sky?

Wed Oct 05, 2011 9:02 pm

I have just seen an interesting video about rare planes. I was simply amazed by the amount of noise of the VC-10.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-0zPczN0_E

We all reckon that there are still a lot of noisy planes around there (stage II). Here in AMS we sometimes have some old B747s but nothing more than that. The question thus is, what is currently the noisiest plane still flying around? If the vc-10 still flies (in the UK army) I think it must be that plane.

I look forward to your opinions!

Out here.....Currently the JT8D powered B732SFs from Bz/DHL. But they'll probably be retired in 2012 finally.
I may not win often, but I damn well never lose!!! ;)

I assume all military bomber / fighter aircraft are excluded here ?
(Loudest flying in that category likely would be a Harrier in hover or a B1-B Lancer on take off ...)

The VC-10 in service with the RAF is a regular visitor to HAJ recently.
Louder than other pax aircraft flying in Europe, but not that loud.
Still their roar can be heard a significant time after take off.
I recall having them taking off in the 1980s from ETNW under which's approach path I live 1 mile from touch down point. There was a period when RAF Gütersloh was closed for refurb and the RAF moved its operations to GAF Wunstorf. Was quite loud in the garden while sunbathing, but those were the times ...

Tu-154's have a distinct sound that stands out, even though it is not too loud.
IL-76 anybody ?

Well, we had a RAF VC10 in AMS as well, not regularly though

Back in 1994 or 1995 when SU had a twice weekly service, we looked forward to the take off of this plane, a Tupolev 134. Every Wednesday and Sunday!!! The roar....the noise.....707 can be as noisy too...but hey, it doesn't carry only 80 people.
