BA Very Bad Connection LHR/LGW

Mon Oct 24, 2011 8:18 pm

a few month ago i flew BA to Berlin from Cancun in Business and i am still thinking of the bed experience i had so i want to ask how many time more will BA have this horrible conexion from LHR and LGW having conections flight.
I flew Cancun-London Gatwick and than my conection flight to Berlin was from LHR!!!
So I bought Business Class and when i arrived in LGW nobody from BA was there, there were no conection bus o service from BA for the premium passenger. I had to buy a tocket and travel like 40 minutes with a bus to LHR. I found that so a bad service that like a paying Business Class passenger BA sold me this ticket to Gatwick but leaving LHR with no service from them to bring me to LHR.
I will not fly again BA they lost a passenger with me and I think many people do not like this conections. Will BA change that???

BA Very Bad Connection LHR/LGW

Where did you make the booking?

Ba.com makes it very clear the connection cost is not included in the fare.

Quote:
07:00 12 Nov
08:10 12 Nov
Tegel (Berlin)
Heathrow (London)
BA0981
British Airways
Euro Traveller
The cost of travel between airports is not included in your fare.
11:30 12 Nov
16:25 12 Nov
Gatwick (London)
Cancun
BA2203
British Airways
World Traveller
1 flight connection, total journey time: 16 hours 25 minutes

Ba can not fly to every destination from both airports. You picked a flight that goes into LHR, and the onward leaves from LGW. You have a number of options available, and that should have been made very clear when you booked. Taxi, bus, train, Hire car etc. I don't know any airline that includes a ticket for the airport transfer bus LGW/LHR. Its your choice of course to pick who you will and will not fly, but saying you will not fly because they don't give you a bus voucher even though its clear this is not included is a bit much?

BA Very Bad Connection LHR/LGW

Years ago, I bought a BA ticket from Pisa to Gatwick, then Heathrow to JFK. In this case, ticket price included there transfer as well as overnight hotel. It was a paid Concord ticket, so that may have been the kicker.

Transferring between airports is a schlep. No question. But airlines, as posted above, make it clear what it to be expected.

BA makes it very clear on their website that you will be traveling from different airports before you make the booking.

Airports do not match

Your outbound flight arrives at London City Airport but your inbound flight departs from Heathrow (London)

And the post above shows that they also make it clear that they wont pay for any means of transfer between the airports. I think you have only yourself (or your travel agent) to blame.
Always comparing your flown types list with mine

If you buy 2 flights together on one ticket and they don't connect (Say a once a day flight but the first flight from origin would not connect) certain full fares will include a free overnight stay. Its called STPC (Stop over at carrier expense)

Mmmm perhaps i think wrong but it is not a bad service and bad for ba that business class pasenger from a transatlantic flight do not get transfer? I just think a airline like ba should take care of there passenger and i found it very cheap from ba! Years ago i flew same route in economy and i got a free night from ba in the Hilton gatwick because my flight to Cancún flew NeXT day and now in business not even a transfer or at least somebody there... I still think flying first or business transatlantic is something special and airlines should take care of you

What I find odd is how in this thread:
Why Always Connection In The Usa? (by abibus Oct 24 2011 in Aviation Polls)
you complain that you can never find tickets that don't connect in the United States, while in this one you are complaining because you did fly via London and expected services you were explicitly told you would not receive.

As you said, years ago! A lot has changed, any airline would be loosing a lot of money if they paid for hotac for people who cant connect same day.

Quoting abibus (Reply 5):
bad service

Where is the bad service. Because you have to buy the bus ticket? yes your in Business class, but you don't get everything for free in this day and age.

Travelling between LGW and LHR is so easy and not expensive so no big deal. Done it myself many times. As for the free ticket arguement I might agree that in F and J an airline might offer the GBP15-20 fare in the form of a voucher but I guess BA have decided not to include this in their product anymore. Guess its the times we live in.

Are there no Star Alliance options from Germany to Cancun ? Maybe try those in future to transit at FRA instead. Also there are charters that offer a Premium Class , its not BA but it will save you the bus connection.

Personally I would choose BA and just do the connection by bus myself. Shelling out GBP15-20 when you have paid a few grand is not going to be a deal breaker. There are private transfers pre bookable by numerous companies that are actually not expensive so if you dont want to slum it with the rest thats another option.

Best way and most quickest is the National Express Coach. Sure hell beats getting the train and then an hour long tube ride.

Exactly its a great service and reliable. Last year I think it was February my DUB-LGW was cancelled due to snow. I got put on the LHR flight and National Expressed it to LGW. They operated in the snow!

I live next to LGW, so when the Royal Wedding was on we got the national express up to Victoria coach station. So easier, plus the trains here now are so EXPENSIVE!!!

Haha and the trains stop at the sign of rain.

The BA website does clearly disclose the airport transfers are not included in airfare price. Someone not paying attention or may not be disclosed if you booked via another website/booking engine. If booking by a travel agent, shame on them for not clarifying airport transfer information since this transfer requires a bit of leg work, time and some additional cost to the customer.
The only exception I have booked is AC offers an overnight stay, at a YYZ area hotel, if traveling on a J fare and the only service/connection is not the same day. Example are certain routings to SYD from cities in the U.S. When booking on AC's website, it will list this overnight stay as an "option" that is included in your ticket price and generally applies to return flights from SYD that arrives in YYZ (via YVR) too late in the afternoon for onward connections. A nice and somewhat rare service item.
watch what you want. you may get it.

While the website is clear, and while the OP shouldn't be surprised, let's not sugar coat it... It's a schlep to transfer between two airports.

Hei i am not complaing about the price for the bus ticket and ... And i am also not saying that ba did not say it on the webpage ! What i mean is like a permium passenger and after an 11 hours flight i really think ba should offer something it is not about the money that the ticket for the bus cost it is about service!!!

Then I guess BA doesnt offer you the product you need so time to look at others. BA cant be everything to everyone . Id love BA to fly DUB-LHR/ DUB-LGW but they dont thats life. Still better to do a 40mins coach transfer after a flight in a bed in J and F than in Y
