DEN - LIH With LAX Connection Question

Fri Dec 30, 2011 6:19 pm

Flying DEN - LIH in March 2012 on AA.

Original booking was:

AA 3816
Dep DEN 0635
Arr LAX 0820

AA 265
Dep LAX 1030
Arr LIH 1435

I just received a email notification that AA flight 265 has changed to a 0900 departure.

I feel like 40 minutes may be cutting it close, even if there are no delays leaving DEN. As best I can tell AA only has 1 direct flight LAX - LIH each day. If we were to miss the connection what would our options be? Would AA book us on another airline that day direct to LIH, or route us via HNL on flight 287 at 1515 with a HA connection to LIH? Or would AA make us wait until the next day to depart for LIH? I booked a package via Expedia, also wondering who I should contact AA or Expedia? Should I be proactive and see if I can make changes now or wait and see what happens that day and let it ride?

RE: DEN - LIH With LAX Connection Question

Yes 40mins is very tight, especially since AE flights do not operate from the main terminal and you will have to take a bus from the Eagle terminal.

If you miss the flight, yes AA will try to accommodate you the best then can. Cant really say how, however if possible they will most likely try to keep you in-house to a flight to HNL or OGG and then connect to HA seems the most likely.

Personally I'd try to get reaccommodated to start with and not worry or take the risk.

Sadly this is what happens when one purchases tickets too far in advance domestically. Airline schedules are subject to multiple changes and dont get firmed up until about 60-90day.

I like schedule changes. They often put control in the passenger's hand.

A few questions:

1) are there upgrades involved? If not, there is less to worry about with regard to a reroute
2) is this a paid ticket?
3) have you proactively checked other AA routings (including codeshares) from DEN to LIH? Are DFW or SFO possible connecting points?
4) AA will likely tell you that 40 minutes is a legal connection. So if you can't change anything now, have backups in mind. Don't check bags.
