IAD To MUC For Oktoberfest

Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:32 pm

Who is a better choice,
Lufthansa on an A330 or United on a B777?
Also who has better IFE ! Food etc...

Your input is greatly appreciated

I could do a stop over too if a better airline is chosen with better options?
The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

I've been on both types TATL, and that exact flight/type on UA. LH LH LH, UA TATL service is often dismal IMO. I've been on both airlines on many different routes and types many times, and LH is simply far superior to UA.

Aer Lingus might have good prices…you could go on that strangely operated flight (IAD-MAD)
AC is pretty good.
SK, LX, BA are all good in my opinion
Bad to say this as an American, but I really don't like TATL service on US carriers.

Don't be ashamed...as one who regularly makes his way to Europe on Euro-carriers and US carriers...US carriers simply fall short

simple as that.

Is the AF A380 still doing the IAD-CDG run? That would probably be my first choice.

It's stopped for the winter season down to a 77W but scheduled to return in Spring.

I would go on OS but that involves going past MUC.

You could go IAD-MUC (LH) MUC-SZGBB/DBahn) SZG-VIE (Westbahn, and earn Miles&More) VIE-IAD (OS).

That way you could see Oktoberfest, do some touring in Austria and then fly back.

Not at all. Though my CO flight IAH-EWR-MUC was fantastic. Easily the best US TATL I've ever been on. (N=4).
I know it was technically UA, but the IFE said CO, the announcements said CO before correcting to UA, the pilot said CO and the German announcements all said CO, no correction. Including the final (human) „Wir danken Ihnen für Ihr Unternehmen mit Continental Airlines.“ Sometimes they said „Continental United“.

The plane (a CO 764 #54) said United.

Definately LH, like the other posters have said.
LH also has more comfortable airplane, IMO, with 2-4-2 seating, opposed to UA's 3-3-3.

Which one is better? Continental / UA or Lufthansa? Are you kidding? You are seriously asking this question?

I'll give you a hint. The winner is Lufthansa.

By the way you really don't need to fly into MUC. With the highly effective and fast high speed rail in Germany, you might just fly into FRA and take the train from there. The high speed train departs right from within the airport building. If you book 3 months ahead (exactly 92 days actually) you'll get a killer fare for the train.

Except air fares may be almost equal to FRA and MUC. In that case any train fare means paying more than flying all the way.
