Can I Redeem UA MP Miles On My SQ Flight?

Mon Jan 02, 2012 8:43 pm

I just booked flights with SQ, Sweet Deals Fare and it says I can't accrue miles on SQ but I'm wondering if I can with UA (or US Airways)

JFK-FRA - Singapore Airlines - Airbus A380-800 (SQ 025) 08/03/12
FRA-SIN - Singapore Airlines - Airbus A380-800 (SQ 025) 08/04/12
SIN-MNL - Singapore Airlines - Boeing 777-200 (SQ 912) 08/05/12
MNL-SIN - Singapore Airlines - Boeing 777-200 (SQ 917) 09/02/12
SIN-FRA - Singapore Airlines - Airbus A380-800 (SQ 026) 09/02/12
FRA-JFK - Singapore Airlines - Airbus A380-800 (SQ 026) 09/02/12

So it comes up at around 22,000 Miles which is pretty good.

The fare code is QLJFK but I'm confused, it's usually just one letter like shown below:

and according to United, here are the fare codes for SQ that can accrue miles

Economy Y B E H K M S W L U - 100%
No Mileage Credit X I O G Q V N T - 0%

So can I receive miles with my fare code above? If not, is it possible to "upgrade" my flight to the next fare level, it's only 50USD so it's definitely worth it IMO.

Thanks.
It's a cultural thing.

You are confusing fare basis and booking class. Fare basis can be any number of letters and are often a code in and of themselves. As an example, found a LHR/SIN fare with IT that had the fare basis TOWGB541, presumably meaning a T-class, One-Way fare from GB.

The first letter of the fare basis is the booking class, so in your case, it would mean that you wouldn't be eligible to earn any UA MP miles on that trip.

Looked on expertflyer and the next fare up seems to be the W class fare - for only 50 bucks, I'd go for it.

Hi, if you can't get the miles on a KrisFlyer account I highly doubt that you will receive the miles on MileagePlus, they unfortunately have a lot of restrictions. However, if you can "upgrade" to the next booking class for such a little amount, then it's really worth it...
