Name On Ticket Mix Up!

Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:02 pm

Hey guys

I have a question for those in the know.
I’m travelling to France in March and I have an internal flight with AF travelling from BOD-CDG

My girlfriend booked the tickets but she accidently put my middle name as my last name.
So my full name lets say is Kevin Christopher Bieksa but my ticket is showing Kevin Bieksa Christopher

Air France have said they “can’t” change the ticket.
My question is, is this going to be a problem?
If it were an international flight I could see this being an issue but this is just an internal flight in France with no connection afterwards.

What’s the opinion here?

Thank you much
Stu

This is just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't worry at all. Simply check in online and show up at the airport. Most likely they will never notice at the gate. IDs from different countries have very different layouts in terms of where the first, last and middle name is printed. In my German passport for example the last name in in the top line, then a line down, is my first name and after that my middle name. They could easily be mistaken for my full name. If they check it at the airport, they will see the name is there and not notice the difference.
As I said, this is my own opinion and how I would handle this. Proceed at your own risk.

The girlfriend that doesn't know your name, that's what I would worry about if I was you.

For what is worth, I was turned back by TSA because there was a "one letter" discrepancy between my ID and the name on my ticket in LAX. I had to turn around, go to ticketing, spend almost 1/2 hour to change my name on the ticket.
It should be fine, be prepared.

You're travelling in France... Well, it should be fine, unless AF decides they want some money from you because of your error... I wouldn't be too worried, but be prepared... Hey, if not, you can always take the TGV! Probably cheaper than getting a new ticket if AF denies you boarding.

They have no "equivalent" for the TSA in France, luckily.

Last time I flew domestically in Europe, they didn't even check my ID. I could have been traveling under any name!

Although, this wasn't in France, but if you bring ID, make sure you bring ID with your middle and last name in it, so you can explain if they do ask.

I wouldn't worry, and if AF won't change it for you, then just travel under that name, I wouldn't bother buying a new ticket. However, worst case scenario, they might have you buy a new ticket, as they are entitled to deny you boarding as your name does not match.
