Missionary Pilots: I Need Info Please!

Mon Jan 16, 2012 1:20 am

While I was in church today this topic was placed on my heart out of no where, it has been on my heart all day but I have no clue where to start in means of how you even become one. I am in the likes of going to school right now for an aeronautical science degree so I have the flying part covered! If anyone can spread their two cents to me, anything, let me know! Are there certain companies that take pilots on for such a task, I know that there are stand alone missionary pilots. I am unsure what or where I stand right now in terms of what path to even take. All your input would be great from information you know on how to become one, etc.

Thank you guys! Appreciate it!!
jet. its a must.

You might get in contact with LeTourneau University as long ago I believe they had some flight instructors at the school who were former missionary pilots in Africa and South America, o you may be able to start there at a minimum. It is a long shot, but you never know. Here is a link to the Longview, Texas school:

Mission Aviation Fellowship are the big name people may have heard of:

Their website seems full of good info and contact details.

Good luck!

Or you can try this organisation:

I have flown a couple "mission" flights, as Air Canada has a huge volunteer group of pilots, flights attendants, mechanics that jump at the chance. Air Canada backs us 100% and often donates the aircraft/fuel/planning logistics etc.

I am very proud to say that Air Canada had an A321 full of relief supplies in New Orleans before the US Military! (I was the Captain). Then two Air Canada A321 shuttled passengers back and forth from New Orleans to Texas for 4 days. I did the same thing several years later when a B767 Captain to Haiti.

You never forget how very fortunate you are, when you meet people who are not.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!
