Cashing In Airline Miles

Sun Feb 05, 2012 2:11 am

I have some air miles I probably won't be able to use as the airline doesn't serve anywhere around here. I've heard that there are ways to trade them in for cash, but I'm a bit reluctant.

Has anyone done this before? Who is reputable? How does the transaction take place?

Thanks.

Never heard of such a thing. And fairly certain that it would violate the terms of every ff program on the planet.

Most, if not all, airline programs do not allow you to sell miles although some do permit gifting of miles to another member. There may be a fee involved for transferring those miles.

Check out the rules of the program of which you are a member to see whether it would be worthwhile as you would have to consider not only the value of the miles but also the cost of the transfer.

As RamblinMan said, it's certainly against the rules of every FF program. A google search will redirect you to some "companies" willing to trade your miles, but I'd be reluctant to do that too. Also keep in mind that FF miles only have a low value, so unless you have thousands of them I don't think it's worth trading them for cash... Just my

What about Points.com? They don't let you "cash" your points, but you can transfer them to a program you frequent more often.

What about Points.com?

That's my suggestion as well. I got an excellent deal from someone really desperate for AA miles when I wanted to offload some.

Please be cautious as airlines can deem this as fraud and shut down your account with no come back . You will also be blacklisted . You take your chances with this Im afraid.

But you know, that is against the airlines T&Cs. You are NOT allowed to sell miles.

But you know, AA advertise points.com on their own website and AA's own buy/gift/share miles programme is even run by points.com. The catch is that you have to pay a fee to trade your AAdvantage miles.

Some airlines allow it I think, but you'll get a terrible rate of return if you try and convert to cash.

Much better to convert to a non-airline program like a hotel chain if the airline allows. Which airline is it?
