Inconvenient Schedule Change, Need Help

Sat Feb 25, 2012 7:40 pm

My parents were booked on TAP to fly BRU-LIS-GIG on March 4th. They have received an email today saying that they have now been booked on a later flight to LIS, meaning they cannot make the day flight to GIG. They now have a 9h20 layover in LIS and a night flight to GIG. BTW, they are travelling in economy. From what I researched, the early flight to LIS has been cancelled.

They will not accept this new schedule. What options do they have?

They would accept the following: 1. Same flights the day before. 2. Fly to LIS the evening before, overnight in a hotel (try to have it paid by TAP) there and take their original day flight to GIG. 3. Reimbursement.

Do they have any legal arguments? My dad is *A gold, but flies LH Group and gives very little business to TAP so not sure if they would make an effort to help him.

Any suggestions, advice, or comments appreciated.

Thanks

Those sound liek reasonable options. Only way to find out though is to call TP. Check to see if the original fare classes are still available - if they are it really shouldn't be an issue.

Even if they are not, it's such a major change in schedule the airline should be able to arrange a reroute or a change in date if it's possible.

TP will offer you an reimbursement.

TAP pays for hotels in LIS. if the schedule doesn't fit otherwise (it's called STPC). Now they could argue and tell you "but we have a flight with a schedule that fits, with a 9 hour layover, but it fits, no need for a hotel", but I wouldn't even argue. Ask them for this offer.

be aware that its not valid for A and S booking clsses.

I would call TAP Germany and explain the situation. I guess the following is reasonable:
-Reimbursement (should be no problem, but be sure to get a decent flight with a decent price with another company first)
-Flight from i.e. FRA or DUS instead of BRU (only if schedule suits and if it's an option for your parents obivously, do not accept to pay an addon or fare difference or something)
-Flight from BRU but with an additional stop, which suits better the schedule, i.e. BRU-FRA-LIS-Brazil (only if this is an option for your parents to have one more connection)
-Ask for a hotel night as stated earlier

Good Look, feel free to share the outcome

It sounds like this might be applicable if they have actually cancelled the first flight, as it's less than 14 days notice.

Thanks for all the advice.
We called TAP and managed to change the booking, now my parents are flying one day earlier, with flight times being those originally planned.
