Wow, I Was Issued A Paper Ticket

Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:45 pm

I thought those were a history, but here it is, a flight coupon on my name.

I have no idea why, the route has 6 legs with 3 different airlines, but they are all star alliance members.

Web checkin doesn't seem to work for this ticket. How come? I mean, i'm pretty sure the ticket is stored in all airline's databases and the ticket number seems the same as any eticket. What's the point of disabling webcheckin? I can even get the trip data on checkmytrip with booking code.

Any ideas why all that might be?

Who issued the ticket? One of the *A airlines or an agent or third-party website? And have you contacted all three airlines concerned to make sure you are actually booked?

I ask because this happened to me a few years ago when I booked a multi-airline trip through Travelocity. The airlines in question were AirTran and United, and Travelocity mailed me paper tickets. Problem is, they were worthless (for the first two legs) because Travelocity only booked the United leg. They never actually booked the AirTran legs. I discovered this the hard way when I tried to check in at the AirTran counter. A phone call to Travelocity confirmed that they had dropped the ball.

If web checkin isn't possible then it could be that your reservation is flagged for some reason, or that it doesn't exist at the airline. I'd call all three airlines to be sure.

..for what its worth, normally, web check-in is only available for E-tickets. That means, with paper you gotta go to a check-in desk. One could back in the day, put his paper ticket into the check-in kiosk...alas no more at least at the
largest German carrier.

We received a letter of statement saying that 2012 is the very LAST year for the paper tkts, but as long as I'm concerned IATA wanted to ban them since 2008?

Last time I had one for an international trip (read: not some third world African country) was early 2008. Booked through my corporate travel agency for MCI-LAX-SYD-LAX-MCI because Midwest and Qantas didn't have an E-Ticket arrangement. It was very odd to carry it around Australia for a couple weeks, hoping to God I didn't lose the darn thing. I'm very, very happy I haven't seen one since!

My last e-ticket was handed to me by SWA for a flight FLL-HOU.

I remember vividly the woman telling me ''this is your ticket- if you loose it, you lost your money''.

I haven't seen one since, but it is very strange that they still issue them in some places.

They used to wonderful things to collect. After the change to etickets I kept those for a time, but a print out from a website just didn't have the same "feel"

My last paper ticket was KQ LHR-NBO-MBA-NBO-LHR in 2005. It was printed on the old flimsy IATA stock with the blue and red map on the front (remember those?). By the 2000s most paper tickets had transitioned to boarding pass style cardboard so to get one of those old ones was nostalgic then, all the more so now knowing I'll never see on again.

I flew SIN-CCU last night on SQ and there were a couple of paper ticket coupons sitting on the desk at the boarding gate - there still seem to be a few floating around.

My last paper ticket was in 2010 for a domesitc flight in Cuba with AeroCarribean. Before that, the last one for definate was a mix of Austrian, Macedonian and Swiss on a LHR-VIE-TIA,SKP-ZRH-LCY journey in 2007. Macedonian didn't do etickets then, so I got a paper ticket, which was nice to get in the post - like living in the olden days!
