Any 737NGs Without Winglets Still Around?

Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:55 am

The question is as stated in the subject: do any airlines still have unmodified 737NGs flying around without the APB winglets installed? I would assume it's more likely for government/military aircraft or business aircraft, but what about those in commercial service?

B-52s don't take off. They scare the ground away.

Some of the 739's that AS has, I think two of them, are still flying without winglets. I think it is aircraft 302 and 305 never had them installed.

SK also has several 737-700's and 737-800's without winglets.

Also they're 737-600's don't have winglets. Although it is considered 737NG, the -600's never were offered the winglets.

Until a few months ago, U2 were flying several 737's without winglets. Air Europa and Thomson still have a few 738's around minus winglets too.

There are still a lot of them. China Southern, Air China, I believe SAS has some, as well as Turkish. More common than you might think.

Unless they've got some that have been hiding from the photographers here, yes. The 73Gs were delivered with the winglets and it did take them some time before finally outfitting the 738s.

Even operators like FL have all of their 73Gs outfitted with winglets. If I remember correctly, they were originally going to install them on apart of the fleet (The ones leased from GEACS?) but eventually decided the cost savings in the long run was worth the initial expense. This is something other 737NG operators discovered as well and outfitted all of their a/c with them (excluding the 736 since there is not a winglet certified for it).

All of MA 737NGs flew without winglets and IIRC, there were no plans to fit them with winglets.... Transaero took some 73Gs that belonged to MA and they don't have winglets on them.
