Mon Apr 09, 2012 6:35 pm

Have the option on my trip to NRT next month....

Which product is better? I talking purely from a "Seat" perspective.

Absolutely the PMCO BF seat. The PMUA one squeeze you like sardines on a 2-4-2 configuration on a 777 for heaven's sale (while econ is only 3-3-3... go figure).

While the BF seat is only slightly wider than the UA one, the feeling of spaciousness (real or perceived) is definitely there.

Another point of consideration is that on PMUA, you have 50% chance of getting a rear facing seat if you don't grab your seat early, while PMCO seats all face forward at a *very* slight angle.

I'm sure this is somewhere in the forum threads but I was just wondering while we are on the subject if any one can tell me which seat will survive the CO/UA merger?

Are they keeping the new UA business seat or the new CO business seat?

You'll get a lot of feedback on this one (going in both directions), but one thing for sure is that the CO seat offers more storage space for your personal belongings, and the DE seats on the sCO 777 offer direct aisle access without the 'threat' of having someone step over you.

UA's footwells are a bit wider than the regular CO seats, but if you can score a bulkhead on the sCO birds you'll have plenty of room for your feet. The UA bulkheads retain the same shape as the other seats for some reason, even though the space on the other side is wasted.

I've flown them both rather extensively (forward and backward on UA) and can attest to the notion that there is no great difference between them. I prefer the CO seat for the above reasons, as well as the fact that they angle toward the windows, but the are both perfectly adequate for a long flight. My biggest concern is having a flat bed I can sleep comfortably in, and both products deliver.

After May, the onboard service will be identical. In this case, go for convenience.

I have flown both, and I definitely preferred the UA biz seat. The seat between the two are very similar, not much different, but I actually had better service on the PMUA flights.

They are keeping both, however going forward, new airplanes will be getting the PMCO BusinessFirst seat. Both are fully flat products and there is no need to go through the cost of conversion as they can be sold side by side as equivalent.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Thanks Roseflyer. I've travelled on both and found them to be very similar - I just really didn't like the 4 seats in the middle on the US version - however compared to the old UA business class it's so much better. Long overdue.

I book early so that I CAN get a rear facing seat. I actually prefer them as its more fun during takeoff. During cruise - you can't even tell that you are facing backwards.

It just goes to show that everyone has their preference
