UA Seat Selection On *A Partners

I had a friend traveling today, former UA mileage plus-er, that voiced the following lament:

On the new UA (old CO) reservation system, one cannot select seats on the *A partner legs. This was possible on the old UA system, but not on the current setup. The reservations agent was actually apologetic saying the new system is very limited.

If this is true, it is a very unfortunate event for UA. The new airline is branding itself as the world's leading airline, and the revervations system is just not keeping up.

I for one, am baffled that after 18 months or more, the reservation transition was this messed up. Should have been easy. Mirror site, test the dickens out of it, switch over. Losing capability like this, especially a major one like this, is a real problem.

Is it possible this is just a training issue? If not, what are the plans to fix it?

Speaking specifically of LH, this has not been possible online in the pre-merger United, so I'm not sure the premise for your complaint is correct. Reserving online with United, I frequently fly segments on LH and have never been able to pick seats online, but must call Lufthansa to arrange seating directly if I feel it necessary.

What Star partner are you referring to specifically?

I know there are similar issues seen with most mergers, like FL and WN. I'd assume that merger had more issues just because of WN being solely domestic before acquiring FL (who does fly international) but the underlining issue still remains. When getting two companies merge into one, there are other issues with employees, financials, maintenance, etc. so there are bumps and bruises with reservation systems.

Yep, a simple call to the very friendly and accommodating LH agents solves the entire problem. I just made the call today for two LH flights in the middle of a UA round trip to Europe this summer.

That is one complaint that I did have with the CO website, but then it's nice to talk with the folks at HA and other carriers like LH!!

The old/new united site has many bugs, but the seat selection was never available for partner airlines. You can always call them with the confirmation number for your trip.
