UA-LHR Lounge Access

Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:25 pm

Hey guys,

Flying MCO-BEY via IAD and LHR on UA and BD. I managed to get an upgrade from eco to business on the MCO-IAD-LHR on UA using miles--I was wondering if I would be able to use the Arrivals Lounge in LHR. I have about a 3 hour wait and I would like to shower and take care of some things. I usually fly into LHR's Terminal 3 and pay the fee for the No1 Lounge but flying UA and BD this time, it looks like I am flying in and out of terminal 1.

I can't seem to get a clear answer--thanks for the help.

UA-LHR Lounge Access

As far as I recall, only those booked into business or first with cash or miles are eligible to use the arrivals lounge. Those upgrading from economy with miles do not get access. You say that you need to "take care of some things." Does that mean that you want to go landside which is where the arrivals lounge is located?

Assuming you are in economy for your departure from Heathrow, I think you are out of luck with regards to lounge access. The Servisair Lounge (paid access) in Terminal 1 doesn't have showers. I don't believe you can pay for entry to either Star Alliance or BD lounge.

Your best bet would be to show your C class boarding passes and try and charm your way in. If it doesn't work at the Star Lounge, try the BD one!

Here's the link to Star Alliance lounge access policy. It's the "local airport" bit that pretty much confirms you aren't eligible. The arrivals lounge from United is not a *A lounge.

PS If you are an active member of FlyerTalk, there are threads running where people will happily "guest" you into the lounge with them.

UA-LHR Lounge Access

Thanks for the help. Is it possible for me to go to Terminal 3 and use the No 1 club service even though my flight is out of terminal 1? I know that you can walk from T1 to T3, but I don't remember if you have to go land side for it.

I have never had to connect at Heathrow as it's always been my point of origin or destination, but as I understand it you'd need a boarding pass for a flight departing Terminal 3 to get airside there whether entering via the Flight Connections Centre or via landside. However, according to this website, it looks like you would be able to make it over to T3, but not sure if you'd be able to get back.

I guess you could always explain that (after visiting the lounge) you'd made a mistake and ended up in the wrong terminal. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time that that had happened.

Others may know more, but I wouldn't book it in advance in case you can't get over there.

If you are on Twitter, send a question over to the @HeathrowAirport team - they're very good at coming back on queries. If you do, be sure to report back!
