United 747 SFO-HKG Seat 43A

Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:53 pm

Hello all I have a question if the above seat is good or not? According to the United.com seat map it looks like there is extra room, but if I go on seatguru.com their map doesnt show that. Can someone tell me which one is right? Thank you.

I am not familiar with this particular seat/row. I noted on both seatguru and seatexpert.com that row 43 is color coded as poor due to limited recline....due to bulkhead and/or exit door location behind....and aisle traffic from adjacent galley. A seat with limited recline would be an uncomfortable ride for such a long flight, and consider if folks seated in row 42 recline, it makes your seat space even tighter. Opt for another row if you have other choices.
I am more familiar with the 2 seat rows 58-60. A significant improvement over row 43 even if it is further back in the plane. These seats feel more spacious and in particular I liked both rows 58 and 59 for that extra space between the seat and sidewall of the cabin and good view from 3 windows.
Good Luck with your seat choice, and Best Wishes for a great trip!

I know about the supposed limited recline but on the United.com map it makes it look like that seat has extra leg room. And thanks.

I did ORD-HKG-ORD a few times last year. Rows 58-60 are the best seats not in J/F, they are better than Y+. 59 A/J is the best of those as you get extra leg room to the fuselage side of row 58 not having the 3rd seat and you can store your computer bag/small carryon between your seat and the fuselage. 60 is ok as well as you can go "up and over" to use the lav or stretch out if you get stuck on the window seat. The con is you are in the back, but the pros outweigh the cons by a long shot as you will have to wait in customs anyway.
