Best Places To Visit For A Weekend

Sat May 05, 2012 11:08 pm

Hi all,

I've got the next 3 days off, and working for a major US airline, I want to go some where that is easy to see/do in a weekend. If it helps, I work in Houston (IAH).

This feels like the correct forum to be asking this type of question ("preferences").

So, for those of you have have done it, or are doing this. What are your suggestions????

THANK YOU!

It really depends on what you're wanting to do. All of the options I'm going to give you are places in which getting around via public transit is rather easy. If you want to explore historical sites and museums, places like Washington D.C., New York City and Boston come to mind. These are cities that you can go to many times and still not see everything. You could always take the short hop from IAH to New Orleans. Lots of history and excellent food. Atlanta is not too bad of a place either, as there are spots like Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium and the World Of Coca-Cola all within a short walk of each other.

I've done a couple of places on quick weekend trips - Mexico City, Hawaii (HNL,OGG,KOA and LIH), Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Alaska, east coast cities and west coast cities.

SEA. Stay at Radisson or DoubleTree @ SEA. Walk across the street from terminal and a bus stop is just outside bag claim to get downtown. Visit Boeing Museum, and downtown is great for walking. If a full day is available, take the Victoria Clipper to Victoria, BC. Eat Fish and Chips and drink cold beer @ the Black Fin on the seaplane docks, and visit the B.C. Museum, all within a short stroll from the ferry dock. The ride on the Clipper is through the beautiful San Juan Islands in WA; otherwise, plenty to see and do in SEA. If you've been to SEA before, definitely consider the Victoria day trip, or take the bus, train or non-rev on AS to Vancouver for the day.
Being in IAH, you'll enjoy the cooler weather and the beautiful geography of the Northwest.
I wanna' go.........
watch what you want. you may get it.

I like PI4ever's suggestion to visit SEA. I may make that a stop in the next year and take his advice.

I used to live in Houston in the 70's and I know the weather all too well. So, I'd go California. San Diego, Santa Monica/Malibu (LAX), Newport (SNA), Santa Barbara, Monterey or San Francisco. On the other hand, maybe Pam Springs for the hot dry weather.

If you don't want to rent a car, then SFO, SAN and Santa Monica are the best choices. But everyone should go to Monterey/Carmel at least once in their lives, especially if you bring someone special.

thanks all for the suggestions!

I am from San Diego and absolutely LOVE that city, but want to visit somewhere else. That being said, SEA is on my list, but loads for tomorrrow are quite full, and, may need to be a second day.

I am thinking of Mexico City. I want even more passport stamps! Suggestions for a day trip there? Does Customs mind seeing entry/exit stamps on the same day in Mexico?
