CDG Connection Time

Mon May 14, 2012 9:14 pm

I'll be arriving CDG on an AF flight from SFO and connecting to an EasyJet flight to KRK. According to the published flight schedules, I'll have 1 hr 50 min to make the connection. Can I make a seamless connection without clearing passport control? I will only have hand luggage. Any insight about transferring from 2E to 2B (I think) is greatly appreciated.

KRK is in Poland, and therefore Schengen area. If you are unaware about Schengen, this mens that there is basically no borders between all the countries in the Schengen area, and therefore no passport control between France and Poland. It's like a domestic flight.
This means:
-You arrive Terminal 2E and pass Schengen immigration. You pick up your bag and take it through customs.
-You walk or take a landside bus to Terminal 2B.
-You check in your bags again with Easyjet

Please be aware that Easyjet is a low cost carrier. They will not accept through checked bags from AF nor will AF be able to issue a boarding pass for U2. If you miss your flight, U2 will not rebook you.

To be honest, I consider 1h50mns as way to short. It is doable if you are first at immigration, if your bags come right away, and if you run through the whole airport (which is a mess in CDG). Do yourself a favour, don't book these flights.

Sorry, I just realized you have no checked bags, that is a plus.
Again, it's still very thight. Your AF flight could be late.
You should check in online for your U2 flight. This will save you the check in counter deadline and queues there.
You will still obviously need to pass Schengen immigration and get landside, and then reclear security in 2B.

2E and 2B is very far apart. In order to get from 2E to 2B you can either walk, or take a landside bus. Due to the distance the bus could be a better bet, but it doesn't run very often (approx every 15 minutes). More information here:
http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/e...flight/guide-connection-flight.htm

IIRC Easyjet has some kind of "rescue rebooking fee". If you miss your flight and present yourself within a specified time line after the flight departure (i.e. 2 hours), you can rebook against a fee (i.e. 50 EUR) on the next avble flight (if there is one). Check their website.

No! I have found that AF flights typically run 15-20 late (usually waiting for pax, etc), but even if your flight was ontime, this would be very tight.

CDG is one of the most inefficient airports I have ever dealt with, something is usually going "wrong". If you can take a later flight, you should. I'd say you have probably about a 50% chance of making your U2 flight if everything runs smoothly.

If you do decide on this itinerary, don't waste any time on the ground in CDG!

Instead of waiting for the free shuttle, should I save time by taking a taxi between terminals?

Expect that no taxi driver will accept that ride. This is unless you *pursuade* him with a stack of €-bills (and 5€ is the smallest one ...).

1h50min ?
Tight but can be tried if you already have booked your flights. If not I would advise against such an itinerary.

OLCI for your U2 is a must facing this itinerary.
Unless you have a walking problem I would try to walk from T2E to T2B using the moving walkways.
As others have stated, don't stop for food or newspapers enroute (not that you will see a wealth of food outlets anyway ...). The only stop allowed is heading for the Men's rooms.

I had a 1h20 connection AF -> AF, 2E to 2F, and it was a nightmare. I too would recommend against this - book on the next KRK flight, even if it is the next day, or try to find an AF destination nearby (eg. Warsaw) and combine onto one ticket.

Yes...
http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4126

GBP50, EUR60. You still must present at checkin within 2 hours of the original departure time, so hope that theSFO flight is not more than say 3h late...

Thanks for the insight. How long would it take to walk between the terminals?

Expect that a number of people will be in your way, so figure around 20 minutes, give or take a few.

Hi Modesto 2,

I am heavy user of CDG, it was my home airport for long years and now I use it as a transfer point when going to Bordeaux from NRT, at least 5 times a year + all my personal flights.

1h50 is a bit tight for a connection as the other said but it can be doable provided:
Your AF flight arrives on time or MAX 15 min late
You've done OLCI for your U2 flight

My tips for a succesful transfer
1. Try to be one of the first out of the aircraft to gain time at immigration. If properly manned they are fairly quick. Never got to wait too long for passport control. Customs control is random except if you arrive from places like Turkey or China, known for fakes.

2. DO NOT follow signs for transfer as it is useless for Easy Jet.
FOLLOW Exit signs. (SORTIE in French)

3. WALK by yourself from CDG2F to CDG2B: 20 min~30 min depending on "traffic", you have to be at your Easy Jet flight gate at least 30 min before departure.

If you arrive at CDG 2F, after baggage claim, you will arrive at the Basement floor. Follow signs for "Paris by train" first as you will need to go in that direction first. You will need to take an escalator to go up to the mid floor which is located at the end of the corridor. Then take the long moving walkway that connect CDG2F to the Train/TGV station.

At the station (do not go downstairs): follow Terminal 2D (it is IMPORTANT: if you follow Terminal 2B, you are directed to the dreaded shuttle bus which runs quite infrequently ), you go through another glass corridor, then arrive at Terminal 2D which you will need to completely pass through. Just keep straight. After crossing the CDG2D, you'll be at destination. Clear Immigration to go into the check in area then clear security.

4. Pay attention to the latest Easy Jet cabin luggage size policy as they are quite stringent applying it at CDG. They try to make you pay for your luggage as much as they can. I remember some Easy Jet pitbull agent checking the size of all luggage. They must surely be paid by the commission.

that was my connection time when I flew from CVG-CDG-BCN in 2009. I don't think you should have a problem, so as long as there aren't many people going through customs at the same time.

But was this on one ticket? I.e. connecting from DL or AF to AF? If so then it's a little different as they thread opener wants to connect on two seperate ticket, one of them being a low cost carrier departing from a Terminal more far away as the terminal AF uses to fly to BCN.

Thanks for all the help, everyone. In case you're wondering, I somehow managed to make the connection despite my delayed arrival on the SFO-CDG flight. I arrived CDG about 20 minutes late, leaving just 1 hr 30 min for the connection from AF in terminal 2E to U2 in terminal 2B. The only hold-up (besides AF's tardiness) was a 20 min wait for the shuttle bus. I made it to terminal 2B, re-cleared security, and arrived at the gate about 20 min prior to push.

Modesto, I have a similar connection this summer in CDG, though it will be AF to AF, so I don't ned to worry so much about the ticket being voided if I miss the flight. However, I am arriving at 2E from IAH and departing to LIS from 2B. I plan to walk it, as I've done previously when in CDG. It's been about 3 years since I transited there. Can you tell me about how long it took you to clear immigration, and also about how long was the security line at 2B? In my past experience, it seems like morning security waits were maybe 10 minutes. I hope it is as short as possible, as I have a 1h45min connection.

Hi, are you sure you are connecting with AF from 2B? This is impossible, as AF don't use this terminal. It's probably 2D or 2F, which is easier to reach from 2E (especially 2F is not that far away).

Thank you Reifel, you are correct, it is 2D, seems all flights to LIS depart from there. It is still on the "other" side of the TGV station from 2E. I've walked from 2A to 2F a few years ago, and it took around 15 minutes if I remember correctly. I just hope the mid-morning security lines move at a manageable pace.

Between 2E and 2D, you can walk for about 10 minutes (through the TGV station).

I never faced big problems at CDG, even did shorter connections without problems. AF staff is imho usually very customer minded as well. It could be the French culture which is part of the 'experience' but basically CDG is an organized airport.

Personally I would've flown AF all the way to WAW and take a domestic WAW-KRK flight which are available for low fares. Connecting in WAW is never a big problem.

Anyway, good to hear you made connection.    Just follow the signs at these airports and do your thing step by step and it usually works out well.

It's extremely complicated. Originally my school was booked to go through CVG-JFK-BCN but rain prevented our flight from CVG-JFK from going over there. We arranged a flight to CDG and through DL's services were able to get an AF ticket from CDG to BCN. We didn't do a codeshare on the CDG-BCN flight, interestingly enough.

This whole trip was a huge blow to my miles, because I couldn't use the flights I flew for my own Skymiles, since my high school booked them    I really wish my high school would've asked us if we were frequent fliers.

Very wise advice, given the hassesl of terminal AND alliance changes at CDG!
