YVR Connection Time: EWR-YVR-PVG

Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:06 am

I'm currently booked on Air Canada from Newark to Shanghai via Vancouver (AC 549 --> AC 025) for this coming October - the reservation currently allows for a 1hr and 1min connection time in YVR. Has anyone been successful with a connection time this short at YVR including clearing Canadian customs and allowing for any possible delays?

Luggage is another concern of mine - I've had short connection times in Canadian airports before (mostly YUL - Europe from the US) and have had my bags miss the connection.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Can't you transfer at YVR from transborder to international without clearing customs?
I can't decide whether I miss the tulip or the bowling shoe more

Your baggage will be transferred and you do not have to clear them through customs. You can check with the YVR website, but if I am not mistaken you also do not have to clear "full" Canadian Customs.

You still fill out a Customs declaration, and you have a cursory passport check, then you go right to the secure international area of the airport.

Understand though, this is not the same for the reverse trip PVG-YVR-EWR.

Also, if Air Canada booked this, then they accept it as a reasonable time. If there are delays en-route, (barring weather) then basically AC takes responsibility for you. And trust me, they know you are there.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Super useful reply, thanks longhauler!

It's been awhile since I've transferred to an international destination via Canada from the US, so I'm a little rusty on the protocol. Thanks for your insight!
