Your Experience On CityJet Avro RJ85's?

Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:26 pm

Hoping someone can provide some insight or first hand experience with CityJet and their Avro RJ85 service out of LCY. 3-3 seating seems tight on this plane? I've flown them with Mesaba years ago and if I recall it was 3-2 and I know SWISS flies them in a 3-2 configuration. Any information would be welcome. Thanks!

Your Experience On CityJet Avro RJ85's?

While I haven't used the Cityjet service, I have flown BA and Flybe on the Avro and 146 respectively and they operated with a 3-3 configuration. It was tight on the window seats as there was limited head room. However if you seat yourself towards the back, not sure if this is the case on Cityjet but where the aircraft narrows there are sets of 2 seats. On the Flybe 142 it was 18AC DEF and 19AC.

Hope this helps

I flew AMS-LCY on CityJet last year. Seemed ok, but I also had two open seats next to me. The plane was probably half-full (Monday night). Keep in mind that loads matter!

I did LCY-AMS last year on a full flight where everybody got soaked whilst boarding. Quite tight and not exactly enjoyable, but for a 1 hour flight it was acceptable.

I flew on them in 2009 and didn't really like it. No window seats available and full flight, felt cramped, 6 abreast is notacibilly more tight then in a 737 or A-320. Plus I couldn't get a glance outside due to the low windows and the engine.

I flew AMS-LCY in the fall of 2010. It was definitely a bit cramped but on a 40 minute flight it could be worse. The crew was friendly enough.

I've flown on Cityjet RJs and BAe 146s more times than I care to remember...
Very cramped and uncomfortable, even for short one -hour flights in my opinion.
The key, as european742 states, is to get a seat in the back rows... around rows 14-17 as there are only two seats on the side with some additional room and the engines don't block the view.

I flew them quite a lot and indeed, a bit cramped they are. Doing them again in 3 weeks flying to a new airport in France for them, stay tuned for a tripreport

For a more recent experience except it was on the DUB-CDG flight but same operator I did a TR here :

They are ok but they are tight in terms of passenger comfort, for a 60-90 mins flight they are ok though especially if like me you bag a row of two at the back .
