Things To Do In LAX

Mon Jul 02, 2012 10:40 pm

I'm staying in the Hilton Lax and wondered of there's anything aviation related (museum/viewing platform/shops) nearby to visit?

Going on to Vegas the next day....any thoughts?

If you're there on a weekend, the observation deck on top of the theme building is open. Also, the Flight Path Learning Center (flightpath.us) is well worth a visit. It's presently open 10 am to 3 pm on Tues - Sat.

If you do get to Flightpath, then when you get hungry go about 1 mile farther to Main st. in El Segundo and eat at the Farmstand restaurant. It is about 100 times better then anything at the airport. Not much around the Hilton either.

You can also spend a few minutes on the lawn across the street from the In-n-Out on Sepulveda Blvd. It is directly under the approach end of 24R about 1000 feet from the threshold. You can walk there from the Hilton. If you go there search for their secret menu on the internet. You will sound much more sophisticated if you order one of the unlisted items.

If you need any electronics check out Fry's on Rosecrans at Sepulveda. Much better prices than in the UK. They carry just about everything, including the parts to make just about everything.

Check out the Encounter restaurant and bar. It's in the airport theme building (the one that looks like a 1960's flying saucer just landed). Expensive, but weird and worthwhile. It's just under the observation deck.

If you have a car or don't mind spending some bucks on taxis, I think the Museum of Flying is open again at Santa Monica airport. Don't even think of going there or returning to LAX anytime near commute hours. It is probably closed Monday and Tuesday. Maybe some locals can help out on its status. It was closed for 10 years.

Need ideas for Vegas too? As a Nevada resident I encourage spending all you can. We need the tax money. Nonetheless, avoid the big name/celebrity chef restaurants. They are rarely worth the money. There are lots of good second tier places. If you need tourist ideas for LAS, just let me know.

If you have any military connections, a visit to Nellis AFB would be great, but you have to have really good connections.

LAX!

A major international airport. Spend little of your time there!

Have you been to every corner of LAX terminals? LAX is "U" shaped airport - very easy to navigate.

Consider taking a long walk there, especially on departure level. I did - 3 or 4 times.

LAX has how many terminals? Plentiful..
There are many ticket counters to observe and take pictures!

Aviation enthusiasts should go inside all LAX terminals and enjoy quick sightseeing of various fixtures in each terminal. LAX terminals are never boring.

One hour of joyful walking and taking pictures is good thing to do!

LAX terminal layout is real airport to experience over and over.

There are restaurants (open to public) on 2nd floor of Bradley Int'l terminal. Very interesting crowd there..

And you get a good view of all the widebodies parked at TBIT.

In-N-Out Burger just north of the airport. A must for spotting.
