DL Domestic F Class These DAYS,

Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:54 pm

I am going to be flying DL F class for the first time in about 15 years. I'll be going to DCA via MSP from LAX (got a really great non-refundable fare! loads cheaper than I've ever seen!). Any opinions about it.? Anything particularly good? Anything particularly not so great? I will be flying on a combination of A320's and 757's. Just some opinions please. Thanks!

While I am normally a WN flyer because of schedules and convenience, I had an opportunity to travel with Delta from PHL to ABQ about a month ago on a mix of (three different types of) 757 and an MD88.

The 757 is a delight in first given the boarding plan - coach passengers turn right, first class passengers turn left (and the flight attendants were great at getting F passengers off first on the 757).

Cabins in the each of the 757 aircraft were clean and bright, though two of the three were clearly older. The MD could have used some cabin work.

I find the 757 to be an incredibly comfortable plane in the front. The MD is an incredibly quiet plane up front.

Service was minimal - snacks, cold breakfast, cold lunch - but beverage service was constant and friendly.

Take entertainment - PTV options are limited (1 out of 4) - but I don't use it anyway - that is what the Kindle is for.

The experience was better than a US F experience I had (PHL-FLL) the same month - the Delta folks were very friendly and constantly available, and the cabins were far fresher on the DL aircraft than on US (737-400, 737-300, A320).

DL F class is very good compared to the competition. I flew it back home a couple of days ago (Thursday) and they were very attentive and I found that there are some meals that i will still enjoy on an airplasne.

I agree with the 2 previous posters.....service on DL domestic F is good. Very attentive service, comfortable seats and meals and snacks are adequate. You won't have a hot entree likely but a cold meal and the snack basket is generally good and seems to fit with the length of flights. I just flew a 3 segment routing via ATL and MSP to PDX and although 2 of the flights advertised lunch, both meals offered were different. Soup, sandwiches, a grilled chicken salad, breadsticks and that awesome peanut butter brownie were offered on both lunch time flights. In addition, all the beverages you could drink and several appearances of the snack basket that includes chips, fruit, nuts and candy bars. The Blue Moon beer was ice cold!
It is a nice ride up front and the pre-board and pre-takeoff beverage starts your trip off on a good note. DL folks take good care of their F passengers so I am sure you'll enjoy their service, and all the more knowing you got a good fare to be there.
Enjoy the ride,
Thomas

Of all Delta aircraft with domestic F, the domestic 763s are the worst. The seats are only half an inch wider than Y and only have 37 inches of pitch. The only good things about them is that there are winged headrests and laptop power.

DL food is for sure a big disappointment, compared to AA and even UA. If you care about wine and premium booze, you'll be disappointed for sure. The crews are hit or miss, but mostly quite good. The leg room is a little restricted, again, compared to AA. Keep your standards low, and you'll be happy, then next time, book on AA.

Um, quite actually, I'm flying DL because I have had huge disappointments on AA over the years. They see my name at AA, and the sign goes up "LOSE HIS LUGGAGE" It's just happened too many times. I can't take a chance on this trip.

Fair enough, but AA F is better than DL F by just about any objective measure. Food is better. Drink is better. Seat pitch is better.

I've heard the same from a few posters...I don't get it. I guess I'm just always unlucky on AA. The worst cabin crew I've run into besides UA. I do agree that the seats are better on AA.

I just flew in F on DL once on a 320 and the other leg on a 752 between PBI-DTW-PBI. The Bus was brighter and seemed a little cleaner but I enjoyed both legs. I thought the seats were comfortable. I thought the food was actually alright both ways and I was surprised to even get anything domestically. It has been a while since I was in F since I was riding standby. The service was great both ways, very attentive, and they were very nice to me but I was in uniform so I don't know if that made a difference.

I've had some pretty rough experiences in back on AA, but never in F. YMMV.

I tend to fly DL in F at least several times per year from/to MSP and have always been fairly happy with the food and service

My last flight in early June was from LAX-MSP over "lunch" on a 752 and we got hot personal pizzas that were DELICIOUS! Honestly the best food in F we've ever had. Usually it is pasta, a salad, or chicken salad (or similar) sandwich for lunch, all of which are usually fine. You even get real silverware and place mats if there is a meal service which I think adds a lot to the experience and feeling like you are in F.

Have a feeling DL maybe taking over AA in what is considered good F class service judging by most of the posters. We'll see and I'll let you all know after the trip. I have done F on both before. We'll see if there have been changes.

About the domestic 763, I was wrong about the winged headrests; the F seats on the domestic 763s do not have winged headrests.
