Largest 747 Operator Today?

Mon Jul 23, 2012 6:25 pm

With the 747 slowly being replaced/ parked, I was wondering which airline has the most active aircraft in their fleet? Both passenger and freighters.

Assuming BA has to be near the top of the list for active 744's?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't see any similar topics.

You are correct, British Airways is the worlds largest operator of the 744 with 57 examples in the fleet.

Yup, I think BA has the record.

Just curious, how many 747s (-8i included) does Lufthansa have?
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

Lufthansa have 2 with 18 on order.

Forgot to mention the BA World Cargo x 3 747-8Fs"........making a total of 60 x 747s currently in the fleet.

Who are 2nd and 3rd behind BA? Assuming United is up there with 23? Qantas must still have a good 12 or so don't they?

What's interesting is that Iran Air's classics (1x -100, 3x -200, 4x -SP = 8) have not only outlasted every other operator of the Classic, but are now outlasting most operators of the -400. When today's tired old -400s were new, Iran Air's fleet was old. Yet it flies on.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Your numbers are 9% too high for operational aircraft.
You include 2 PWFU at CWL and being parted out and 1 stored also at CWL and two in long term storage in the desert.

Those 3 748F aircraft are owned by Atlas (USA) and operated by GSS in BA colours.

I have thought about that myself as well. Some of those frames have been flying close to 40 years which is amazing!
