Deodorant In Checked In Bag?

Wed Jul 25, 2012 8:10 pm

I was just wondering (having googled this and come up with one or two sort of definite answers but they weren't aviation websites) if you are allowed to pack aerosol deodorant (such as Lynx) even though it's flammable? Of course this I'll be packing it into a checked in bag as I can't be bothered taking liquids out in a plastic bag going through security. Also, does it make any difference that this flight is US bound (BOS)?

I always pack a aerosal deodorant in my checked bag. A lynx one actually too. Never had troubles with it, nor in Europe nor in the US. Have a great trip!

Hello,

Yes deoderant sprays are classed as liquids. As is shaving foam.

Hope this helps.

There is no issue with carrying aerosols, so long at they have their caps on (at least that's what I've always been told in Australia). Travelling domestically here, you can take aerosols in your hand luggage as well (and it's easy because there are no LAGS restrictions for domestic flights).

You can check them but not put them in hand baggage.

Makes it a faff for a quick weekend away and not wanting to check stuff in but it is what it is.

I have travelled a couple of times with aerosol deodorant in hand bagage as well. Was no problem. I just put in the little plastic bag together with the other liquids.

I can't speak for other airlines, but Delta Air Lines' policy bans all aerosols in checked baggage (as they are considered "dangerous goods"), except for those used for health and beauty purposes, such as hairspray, deodorant, and shaving cream.

I guess they consider it to be an acceptable risk, so as not to overly inconvenience people.

BTW: Delta Connection carriers do not carry any dangerous goods, except COMAT (company materials) on a few of the carriers.

False!

Have a look: http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/d...ocuments/DGR_EN_53rd_Table-23A.pdf

Allowed as carry-on and checked baggage:

Non-radioactive medicinal or toilet articles (including aerosols) such as hair sprays,
perfumes, colognes and medicines containing alcohol.
The total net quantity of all above mentioned articles must not exceed 2 kg (4.4 lb) or 2 L (2 qt),
and the net quantity of each single article must not exceed 0.5 kg (1 lb) or 0.5 L (1 pt). Release
valves on aerosols must be protected by a cap or other suitable means to prevent inadvertent
release of the contents.

I had a small travel size deodorant in my carry on on my last trip to China and had no issue. In X'ian five people came to smell it, but when I showed them what it was they let me go through.

While not necessarily body deodorant (I use a gel deodorant), I did carry shoe deodorant in my checked luggage with no problem, both to and from the United States.

Odd, I've always been told I can't have them and have had them taken off me.

It depends on the size of the container. The little travel-size aerosol deodorants are fine, what you'd buy for daily use is usually too big.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
