Which Airlines Still Have Spin-dial IFE Controls?

Fri Aug 03, 2012 2:45 am

I was wondering, does anyone know which airlines still have aircraft with analog spin-dial channel/volume controls for the IFE?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think some of AA's older 767s might still have the analog spin-dial controls.

I remember when DL had them on their 762s and domestic 763s (except on ships 1401-1404 which had the buttons and green LED 7-segment displays like on the 763ERs). I actually found it strange that the domestic 767s would have the dials while the L-1011s would have the buttons/LED displays, however, I learned that the L-1011s got an IFE upgrade in the early 1990s (with the L-1011-250s and -500s also getting Airshow installed). The domestic 763s have since gotten AVOD and now the channel/volume is controlled by pressing the right button on the PTV, with a menu popping up with the channel and volume controls, as well as the controls for the reading light and FA call.

A few days ago I flew ORD-LAX on N355AA (763ER) which had the spin-dial control in the armrest.

I remember flying on older US East 757s with them, but I don't know if they've been removed, or if those aircraft are still in the fleet.
