I have flown Premium Economy SIN
and would not miss a second to fly this route again if ever it is re-configured into a two-class airplane again.
The uninterrupted flight meant that I could plan what to do with my time onboard - getting as much sleep as I need, watching movies and working at timings when I am most productive, snacking when I want at the service counter at the rear of the aircraft where there is always something delicious.
The 2-3-2 seating plus generous seat pitch meant also that I could get out of my window seat whenever I wanted - easily stepping over the ankles of my neighbour without disturbing him.
It is my understanding that prior to launching the service, SIA
had a whole re-think on the service delivery onboard these flights to ensure that passengers avoid the risk of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT
) and tailored the passenger experience accordingly. At all times during the flight, cabin attendants are present in the cabin ... and as soon as I woke up, the crew came by to offer water, a drink and snacks. Beyond sitting a little straighter, I had not even moved! That is premium class service and not just premium economy.
Had this service continued with Premium Economy, I would have seen no reason to make a stopover anywhere enroute to North America from Singapore ... getting off and back on the planes, putting oneself through security screening and walking through the airport terminal at timings when the body screams for rest. The only (good) reason for a stopover in airports such as ICN
is the chance to do some photography airside when the weather is good.
Like Ben175, the non-stop service between Singapore and North America ranks right at the top of my experience as a passenger.
