NZ Lounge At LAX -- Need Info

Sat Aug 18, 2012 10:30 pm

Hello,

I'm flying on NZ next week from LAX to RAR. I have access with my United Club Card.

I would like some opinions on what you think of this lounge in Terminal 2.

Does it have showers?
How is the food?
Are there any good views of the tarmac or runways?
How is the lounge overall?

I should have about 3 hours there after coming in from DFW and wanted to know if that is my best choice in Terminal 2..

Would Air Canada's lounge be better?

Thanks for the opinions and thoughts on the matter.

View wise both the NZ and AC lounge look at the same alleyway and North runways, though NZ lounge has more windows being at the corner.

Check out NZ website for details about features they have at the LAX lounge'

IMHO the NZ lounge is one of the best lounges at LAX - food and beverage offerings are usually: soups, cold cuts, salads, mezze-style appetizers, fresh breads and - this is the best part - passed warm hors d'oevres! (at least we've had these on the last 3 occasions we've taken NZ002 to LHR). Wines are great - NZ whites and sparkling, plus NZ beers and all the usual spirits and mixers.

The NZ in-flight concierge also introduces themselves and makes a walk-through of the lounge ahead of boarding to greet the pax on their flight (VS contracts with this lounge too) although I'm not sure if the RAR flight has the concierge service... Staff also lead lounge pax to the gate to enforce priority boarding, although it can feel like mother duck and her ducklings heading to the gate

They get a lot of things right at this lounge in my view.

There are showers (but only 3 IIRC) but I've never seen them all in use at the same time.

The view is OK - but there's a large expanse of flat roof that impedes a good view of the end gates - there are windows on 3 sides of the lounge, if you walk all the way to the far end. Good selection of international magazines and newspapers - I like printed materials!

The AC lounge, by contrast, is rather cramped and featured 1 broken coffee machine on my last visit (although I'm sure it has been repaired by now!) - and while I think AC generally does a good job with lounges, T-2 at LAX is a let-down.

I mostly agree with the post above, but the food is nothing special. I'd rather eat at Nate'n Al's deli in the public area below and then go to the lounge. The lounge can get very crowded too.

Heading for the Pacific Islands Forum? If not, I hope you are not there those days. RAR will be crowded.
Try a bike ride around the island. Just 20 miles, little traffic, and hard to get lost. For most of the way around there is only one road. If you miss your destination, just go around again!

aklrno,

I'm not even aware of "Pacific Islands Forum"..? When is it going on?

I will be in Rarotonga from August 27th-Sept 1st.

Thanks for the input everyone!

It's August 27-31 in Cook Islands. I suspect Rarotonga is the only island big enough.
