Most N,E,S & W

Tue Aug 28, 2012 2:04 am

Not done this for a while, what is the most extreme location you have visited in each direction of the compass? The same for airports (which you have actually flown into).

N - Tallinn (Vanalin) Estonia / airport TLL
E - Tokyo (Narita airport is actually the furthest east I went) / airport NRT
S - Parktown, Johannesburg / airport JNB
W - Tofino, BC / airport YPW (Powell River BC)

Airports:

North: Anchorage, Alaska (ANC)
South: Bangalore, India (BLR)
East: Bangalore again
West: Kahului, Hawaii (OGG)

Places:
North: Denali National Park
South: Mysore, India
East: Still Bangalore
West: Lahaina, Hawaii

I have flights booked to both SYD and MEL, so in a few months time I'll be able to claim MEL as my southernmost point, and SYD as the easternmost (even though I'll travel west to get there...)

Edited to replace HAM with ANC, as I totally forgot I was there last year...

East and west are somewhat subjective, based upon your starting point. I assume it is based upon the Prime Meridian.

Here's my "extreme" airports, based upon my Flightmemory stats:

N: Barrow, Alaska
S: Ushuaia, Argentina
E: Napier-Hastings, New Zealand
W: Nome, Alaska
ONT - Southern California's Ontario!

Here's my map of overland travel, northernmost and southernmost I'm the same as PlymSpotter , although he took that trip up to Pyramiden in Svalbard while I stayed behind in Longyear so he's been further up north.
East and West are meaningless in my opinion since the prime meridian is just a random line and you could be the easternmost and westernmost person at the same time (you'd have to be on a ship though). In my case this would be Anchorage and Tokyo.
