Longhaul For A Short Hop?

Fri Sep 07, 2012 5:10 am

I know how many on here go on mileage runs often to maintain their elite status. So I was wondering if anyone has ever taken two longhaul flights to earn miles or just for fun? Say you wanna go New York to Los Angeles, but you decide to go via LHR. Or Sydney-Auckland via somewhere in Asia. It sounds pretty fun if you've got the time and money to boot. Has anyone thought or tried this out?

I've flown YVR-YYC (normally 372NM) via LHR! Total time on the ground in LHR was 1hr 28min and total distance travelled was 7904NM!

I've also flown YUL-YYT via LHR! Not quite as impressive as the first one, but still 4836NM vs 876NM.
Last Flight(s): YHZ-YHM-YUL-YHZ Next Flight(s):

That is really impressive! What did immigration at LHR say?
