SQ A380 Seating Question.

Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:13 pm

Hi...Which SQ A380's still have the Y section upstairs or have all existing aircraft been converted to all-J upstairs now like the later delivered frames? If some are still with a Y upstairs, which routes are they deployed on ?

Many thanks

The (older) A380s (380) registered 9V-SKA to SKK are fitted with Y on the upper deck. 9V-SKL to SKT (38E) have the all-J upper decks.

380s are deployed on:
SQ25/26, SIN-FRA-JFK v.v.
SQ11/12, SIN-NRT-LAX v.v.
SQ221/222, SIN-SYD v.v.
SQ227/228, SIN-MEL v.v.
SQ217/218, SIN-MEL v.v.*
SQ322/317, SIN-LHR v.v.*
SQ308/319, SIN-LHR v.v.

*These services seem to have been operated by 38Es of late even though they're scheduled to be operated by 380s. I'm not sure if the schedules have been altered, but this might have been affected by the recent delivery of 9V-SKT.

Edit: SQ1/2 (SIN-HKG-SFO v.v.) will be operated by 380s after 28DEC12, and SQ25/26 will be operated by 77Ws.
Also, there might be eqp subs on occasion.

Your list is missing SQ231/232 which operates daily SIN-SYD (in addition to SQ221/2) with the 38E layout.

Edit -- oops, sorry... I reread your post and realised my mistake  blush

So the A38E flies to SYD, MEL, 2x LHR, HKG, ZRH, and CDG?

So none of the SKA - SKK batch have been converted to all J upstairs yet then ? I thought SQ were going to refit the all to match the later ones.

That is correct, except that LHR will only be served by the 38E 1X daily (eff 28OCT12) on the SQ317/318 services. The other 3 dailies (including the new daily flight) will be operated by 380s (SQ308/319/321/322) and 77Ws (SQ305/306).

The scheduling to LHR prior to 28OCT is a bit of the mess, with the launch of SQ305/306 at the initial frequency of 3pw and the consequent aircraft swaps.

SKA-SKK have not been converted, and AFAIK, will not be refitted with all-J upper decks.

Could we see it happen when the new product is fitted to these aircraft? It makes no sense to do work on them now if more work is going to be done next year/2014 anyway.

I'm (most unfortunately) not privy to any insider information, but if the A380s were to be retrofitted (I'm guessing that's highly probable since the A380 is SQ's flagship aircraft), some A380s might retain the upper deck Y-class section to serve destinations with less premium demand (current served by 380s).

I imagine it'd be significantly easier to fill 60J seats as opposed to 86 (a whopping 43% increase in capacity) with revenue pax to some destinations. Then again, I'm a mere plebeian, so what do I know? It's best left to the experts to decrypt.
