CDG Connections And Long Layover: US-India-US

Thu Sep 27, 2012 3:06 pm

In about 2 weeks I'm traveling BOS-CDG-BLR-CDG-BOS. This is my first time using CDG and my coworkers who did this trip last Spring told me the connections were a nightmare and that it took them about 2 hours to go from one gate to the other. Why? I've have used a lot of airports and I can't think of any airport where I needed more than 45mins at most to connect between flights.

They spoke of long bus rides and lines. Why? According to my reservation all of the flights arrive and depart from terminal 2E. Looking at a map, it seems that I should be able to just walk from gate to gate in a matter of minutes.

On the return, I have a 7 1/2 hour layover at CDG. Oh the misery. Is that even enough time to go to the city for lunch and back? Is there anything interesting to do, closer to the airport? How long does it take to get thru security at CDG at 2PM, roughly?

Another option I'm looking at is to change my CDG-BOS flight to CDG-JFK-BOS, which would give me only a 2 hour layover at CDG but given the connection issues that I mentioned above, I'm concerned that I may miss the flight. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I'm flying business class and have a EU passport, if that makes a difference.

You can easily connect in CDG 2E, with time to spare the enjoy the nice AF Lounge before you continue on to BLR. I just did it 3 weeks ago on a trip to BLR and HYD.
I've not done a "day visit" to Paris; however, you have a choice of the AF Bus service or the RER rail into town. The train takes you to Gare du Nord and the AF bus can take you to the Arch and Champs area that is more convenient than the long walk from the rail station. I've used both and found the service on both convenient, but I was heading to/from a hotel with not quite the time constraint you're considering.
I am not familiar with traffiic issues particularly in the afternoon if you rely on the bus nor security or check in issues for your flight on to BOS so hopefully a Parisian can offer more basic advice. While nice, 7 hours in the AF Lounge will be boring and tiring so I'd opt to head into town for a baguette and a glass of wine.
I was concerned about CDG as a connection point, but had no trouble whatsoever. AF staff were friendly and professional. In comparison, my return via BOM was a train wreck....never to be repeated! I was one veteran traveler who was relieved and grateful to step aboard a DL plane in BOM to take me home.
Good Luck with your trip.
P.S. You have an arranged driver to pick you up in BLR? Don't go without one reserved in advance!
watch what you want. you may get it.

Thank you. Yes I do have a pickup arranged for in BLR. I'm traveling for work so all is taken care of by the firm
Even if I didn't, I have traveled in Asia extensively for leisure, and I've never had trouble finding transportation from the airport.

Sounds like my coworks may have had other issues, hence the long bus connections. They said that there was some construction going on and all the flights might have not been at the same terminal. They're not very travel savy people   With all my flights at 2E I can't imagine the walking between gates to take very long.
