The Best Looking 747?

Wed Oct 24, 2012 12:02 pm

For me, this is tghe 744.
The 748 looks good, but the 744 looked better. It had the best proportions. And the winglets make look him even better...

Has to be the 747-400.

I remember seeing 747-400s for the first time when they were brand new in the late 1980s/early 1990s, and thinking how gorgeous it looked, especially in CX's old green and white stripe livery

To me, the 747-400 is still the best looking subsonic commercial airliner.

Tough question... I like all 747's. It is always a great sight to see such a lovely bird.

But if I had to decide I would go 744 as well. The 748 very close behind as I like the wing design a lot and the proportions are still very beautiful...

'tis my namesake.

I've always thought the 744 is the best looking 747, though.

Boeing 747-200 looks best in my opinion. Better than the -100 as it has a full set of windows on the top. Better than the -300/400 as they look short and stubby due to the longer deck.

Put it in "British" Negus livery and you have a good looking aircraft.

My favorite is the 747-100/200 with the 3-window upper deck. To me the classics looked like a hot rod.

I love the old SP, but come on, it's appeal was as something of a novelty.

The 747-8 is the most elegant looking commercial jet ever built, end of story.

Is that too much?

It has to be the 747-400 or the original 100 series.

Colour scheme wise my favourite 20 (well I couldn't make up my mind so I thought make a list)

1. Pan Am Billboard
2. Qantas early 70's (original scheme in other words)
3. Singapore Airlines blue and yellow as in the 742/743 (not gold and yellow)
4. Thai (not the current one, the last one without all the purple)
5. Air New Zealand (blue and green cheatlines)
6. Olympic Airways
7. Northwest Orient
8. Pan Am with the blue cheatline
9. Japan Airlines with the red and black cheatline
10. British Caledonian
11. Qantas (current)
12. Cathay Pacific green and white stripes
13. All Nippon Airways (the original pale blue scheme)
14. Air Afrique
15.CP Air
16.PEOPLExpress
17.Lufthansa with the blue cheatline
18.Air Lanka
19.BOAC
20.TAP Air Portugal

Cathay Old livery and British old livery 744 are tops....im partial to our beautiful Northwest 744's in the livery prior to the last one as well =) Why does the 747-800 not have winglets or a stretch upper deck? Ive always wondered this..it does look very odd...

1, Raked wingtips instead of winglets ala 787.

2, Both versions are stretched - count the windows.

All 747 variants are incredibly beautiful aeroplanes. They are just so well balanced and proportioned, apart from the 747SP of course. But, if I had to pick a favourite, it would be the 747-400 with Rolls Royce engines in particular. That aeroplane is just so aesthetically balanced and impressive. As for liveries, I'd go with those of British Airways (Landor or Union Jack), South African Airways, and TAAG.

Oddly,I'm partial to the old Northwest Orient livery on the 742, but I do love the BN 747-27SP's!

747-100. Nothing looks more classic in appearance than one either in Pan Am' delivery livery or TWA's twin globes!

Winglets:

As rwy04lg said:

Upper deck:

The freighter doesn't need a stretched upper deck, even on the 744F doesn't have a stretched upper deck (unless it was converted from pax to freighter). The 748i did stretch. Reference the following diagram:
