UA 777 Business First Seats

I'm about to book a flight for next spring on UA 934/935 LAX-LHR in business class. I usually use NZ on that route, but time constraints make UA look better.

I'm trying to figure out which version of the 777 seating is likely to be on that flight. I think it will be the lay flat seats with alternate forward and rear facing seats. Is that correct? Are there other versions of UA 777s left on that route, or likely to be left in 4 or 5 months?

If the lie flat, forward/rear seats are correct, then how hard is it to get from the window seat to the aisle when the aisle seat is fully reclined? I'd like to have the window for the view but I don't want to have to climb over a stranger to get to the aisle during the flight.

I really prefer the herringbone seats on NZ but if I fly NZ I end up having to spend an extra night at LAX on my return.

It's very likely to be the 'new' configuration 3-class s-UA 777.

It was one of the early routes for that configuration, albeit with some regular old-config substitutions. Also the rate of re-configuration for the s-UA 777s has increased again in the winter (info courtesy of the UA Fleet thread) with only 6 remaining to be re-configured (37 completed out of 43)

It seems like SEA-NRT gets the old-config regularly, I guess being somewhat of an orphan route, plus NRT-SIN (probably the same aircraft rotation).

The alternating forwards/backwards is quite good, but with some oddities: the last row of J faces directly into E+ and so you find yourself in the odd position of being stared at, sometimes longingly, by a sea of Y-pax faces - it can feel like a Roman slave-ship/Southern plantation/industrial revolution workhouse etc. etc.

When the aisle seat in J is fully reclined it can be a challenge to hop over the stranger from the window seat - but there are 2 things that help i) a tiny patch of floor space between the 2 horizontal leg-rests (to perform a pirouette!) and ii) the IFE wall is quite sturdy to use as a grab-bar while performing these gymnastics

Also sleeping is generally easier in the rear-facing seats.

Having said that, NZ beats the pants off UA on that route...

I agree, and I will probably regret UA, but I'm traveling with some infrequent fliers and I don't want to have to herd them across the airport and through security going RNO-LAX-LHR, or have to stay an extra night In LA LHR-LAX-RNO because the NZ flight arrives too late for connections. I don't think I can convince them to return LHR-HKG-AKL-LAX-RNO. At least I still get *Alliance miles either way.

Now that's the way to enjoy NZ J - but the LAX-RNO is going to feel like the longest 1.5 hours of your life ever after that routing...

My first experience of the rear-facing seats was in row 10 and it was almost comical how the f/a would deliver our drinks, nuts and table linens graciously, and then literally turn and bark at the Y-pax in row 19, 'you can't have that bag sticking out' etc, etc! They all looked like whipped dogs by the end of the flight...

Is there any reason they couldn't have added a curtain aft of business class?
