Delta 275 Diverted To YEG

Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:10 pm

I was just outside when I saw this beautiful bird coming into Edmonton. It's not often we see a 747 anymore. I see on flightaware this flight was bound for NRT from DWT. How can I find out why this plane was diverted or does anyone have any information on this?

They don't normally publicize the reasons for diversions when they happen. There will a formal investigation and a report with the FAA, and then it will be public record. I am surmising this though.

Diversions in Canada normally appear in the Transport Canada daily occurrence reports website.

t's not updated on weekends but check the National Report link early next week and you will probably find it mentioned, along with the reason for the diversion. Most such diversions are for medical emergencies, especially if the stop is only an hour or two.

The short ground time in YEG would certainly suggest medical . . . they've already filed a flight plan and delta.com says they are just about to depart.

Jeez, no doubt a lot of missed connections. More importantly, I'm sure we all hope that the person needing medical attention has a speedy recovery. Lucky for him it's in Canada!

That aircraft is already airborne, so it sounds like a medical diversion. For those worried about connections, it looks like it will arrive around 1740 JST which will land in time for most connections to be missed.
