96 Hour Transit Visa In DXB Using EK And AC FFPs

Thu Nov 22, 2012 4:20 am

I have asked this question directly with EK as well as Dubai Visa information sites and still have no real solution to my problem.

I plan to fly to Dubai with Aeroplan points using ET and UA, in the last week of Jan, 2013 and return in the second week of Feb two weeks later. As I have points with EK I plan to use those to for the onward travel to KHI from DXB. So basically the journey is YYZ to DXB (Star Alliance) and DXB to KHI (EK Skywards) and hope to use the 96 hour transit visa both ways to make these connections. Having a Canadian Passport visa on arrival no longer applies and one needs a visa to enter Dubai.

Technically you need a minimum of 8 hours to apply for the transit visa, and I can definitely take one of EK's 5 daily flight after the 8 hours to KHI once I arrive in DXB

The problem is I will be arriving and departing on two seperate tickets and in this case both happen to be reward travel bookings. I know if you fly EK (or EY) for your whole journey via DXB/AUH they can sponsor your visa, but since only the last leg of my journey is with EK, they are unable to sponsor it.

I would really appreciate any help in confirming if I can indeed arrive in DXB with ET (or any other Star Alliance Carriers) from YYZ, apply for the 96 hour transit visa, exit the airport and then check in 8 hours later for my flight with EK to KHI (or stay for 24 to 72 hours in DXB) without facing any issues. As well, I would need to do the same thing on the way back, arrive with EK, leave the airport and recheck in for the flight back to YYZ with UA (or any Star Alliance carrier). Is it as simple as it appears above.

Also is a hotel booking mandatory for at least one night both ways? I did read that with the 96 hour transit visa a one night booking was required, but would still like confirmation with that as well.

Any suggestions, recommendations are very much appreciated.

As far as I know, you need to fly EK on both legs in order to qualify for a 96 hr transit visa... Actually they say the same airline but I guess it's either EK or FlyDubai in Dubai's case...

Thanks TurkishWings....taking into account the cost to buy miles, stopover charges etc fare on EK, I am seriously thinking of taking Turkish to Karachi
