Hawaiian 51 Diverted To LAX?

Sat Nov 24, 2012 12:27 am

Anybody know why HAL51 (JFK-HNL) diverted to LAX after taking off two hours late? The weather here in NEw York was beautiful today and HNL looks good as well. So, what happened? It looked like they did an emergency descent into LAX, so could it have been a medical emergency?

Any info is greatly appreciated!!  www.flightaware.com/live/flight/hal51

Looks like it was a planned diversion being that it usually goes offshore over the SFO area. Could it have been a MX issue that keeps the plane from flying ETOPS and by going to LAX it gives them a ton of options to get the passengers moving again?
