Shortest Regular A380 Route

Wed Dec 05, 2012 11:51 am

I noticed while using FlightRadar24 tonight that Thai was using an A380 on the Bangkok to Singapore route. I might be mistaken but I think this journey is no more than 2 hours long.

Is the A380 standard equipment for this route and, if so, is this the shortest A380 route?

It will be gone soon since TG received their second A380. BKK-HKG stays. 2 1/2 hrs. Both TG and EK fly A380s on BKK-HKG.

EK also operates the A380 from Dubai to Jeddah, which is a rather short route.

EK's Aussie-NZ flights. I have flown syd-akl in 2.5hrs. Scheduled as 3hrs.

Cheap run too. Only paid $350 return. What does amaze me about this, is they only go out half full every day.

There's BKK-HKG, blocked at 2.45 hours. Operated by both TG and EK with the A380.

SQ operates SIN-HKG-SIN with the A380 as well, little over 3,5 hours. not as short as the other ones, but still...

Is KE still operating the A380 between ICN-HKG? and China Southern?

Should be a 2.5-2.7 hour block. IMO shorter than BKK-HKG with winds if ATC allows.

KE still operates HKG-ICN but CZ stopped HKG-PEK already.

Am I correct in my assumption that a lot of these short sectors are either positioning flights (with pax) and/or routes that are tagged before of behind a longer sector?

Also; is the A380 actually economical on these short routes? For example compared to NB's or other WB's like the 767 or A330?

Maybe they wouldn't be able to afford to do it on any other aircraft at that price. Half full on a A380 is still rather a lot of passengers.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

It's 2H 30 Mins scheduled. It's 1057 miles, so around 2-2H15 hours of flight time.

BKK-HKG is 1049 miles, so a tad shorter actually

I believe KE's A380 no longer serve Seoul Tokyo anymore.
The shortest one should be CZ's domestic flight between Guangzhou and Shanghai (PVG) (649 nm)

In addition, it is not for training / reposition / tagged before or behind a longer sector but a regular, scheduled flight.

I don't know where you get that information from. That is nonsense. I have flown SYD-AKL a number of times, both when it was a 777 service and since it has become an A380 service and I have never seen it less than 85% full.

If they can't fill an A380 why have they up graded the MEL-AKL service to an A380 too.

I understand that EK do pretty nicely on the Australia - NZ routes ie) are profitable. I also understand thet they have heallthy cargo loads too.

I believe it would cost more to keep the aircraft on the ground in SYD/MEL/BNE and therefore makes sense to have them operating as a revenue earner.

I'm flying KE NRT-ICN on the A380 in a few hours. And CZ no longer op the A380 domestic, only longhaul nowadays.

oh sorry for the mistake. I thought that NRT-ICN was only for the crew trainning (similar to AF's LHR-CDG)

But for CZ, I am 100% sure that A380 still flying CAN-PEK and CAN-PVG

Who is operating the A380 EZE-SCL? I see nothing in current schedules.

Because they upgauged the DXB-MEL nonstop (a flight which can definitely support the extra capacity) to an A380, and MEL-AKL is just a continuation of this longer flight.

I've got no idea what EK's loads are across the Tasman (and have heard conflicting reports like these before), but I will point out that Emirates has long been accused of dumping capacity into the Tasman market by other airlines. The price of their fares would support the argument that they suffer from chronic oversupply as well.

No one. All the recent talk of the 787 got me thinking 787, and LA does operate the 787 on EZE-SCL. Disregard the post . . .

Langon to Toulouse - 226 km (about 3 times per month, and about 3 days)

Of course, it is non-rev, and perhaps not exactly what peh is looking for.

No no no, they never flew the A380 CAN-PVG, it was PEK-CAN and PEK-HKG. I flew both of these sectors in Oct and searched high and low for a CZ A380 and found nothing. They op PEK-HKG just once a day and it's an A330. PEK-CAN has more frequency but no A380. This was backed up by news reports re CZ redeploying the type off domestic. Feel free to check schedules if you think otherwise.

Btw my KE A380 NRT-ICN was packed. ICN-CDG, also A380, probably had 200 pax. Then again, who the hell is flying long haul to France (or Korea) in the first week of December? My AZ 777 MXP-NRT had about 90 pax, could have done it with an Embraer 190 if it had the range...!

Definitely A380 still operating CAN - PVG and CAN - PEK.

A380 PEK - HKG has been downgraded to A330 and then A320's few months ago.

In addition, due to the shortage of A380 ready gate in CAN (domestic side),
the PVG flight has been assigned to an outerbay EVERTDAY in CAN,
