What Happened With DAL1047 (N659DL) Tonight?

Fri Dec 07, 2012 5:28 am

I flew on NK flight 347 from LGA-MYR and, as we pushed back at approx 6:14pm, I noticed Delta flight 1047 (6pm departure to ATL) N659DL (SkyTeam livery 757-200) was in line for takeoff in front of Terminal B for about 10 minutes. There were numerous taxi delays due to a wind shift causing them to change runways. That caused us (the NK flight) to be #25 for takeoff (!), while the DL flight was #22 for takeoff. As we were inching closer to the runway, N659DL turned onto the runway and taxied off of it, returning to the gate. No I see that it finally left again at 9:01pm.

So my question is, why would it return to the gate especially after waiting 1.05 hours and becoming #2 for departure?

Any info is greatly appreciated!  Smile

Probably burned through too much gas waiting and had to go get more fuel.

I had thought that, but I thought they would've factored something like this into the fuel estimates. Guess I was wrong, thanks!

We do, but sometimes things don't work out.

However, in looking at your timeline (I didn't see that they finally left at 2100)- it was much more likely to be a mechanical issue.

Seems more likely to e a mechanical issue than anything, as I would think they'd noticed the low fuel levels before they got to be next in line for takeoff.
