Booking To Malaga For November 2013?

Mon Dec 10, 2012 2:45 pm

Dear all,

Planning ahead (as my son is still in school), we intend going to Malaga/Seville in late October 2013, flying from Germany (Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe/Baden) or Basel on October 25 or 26, for a week.

Originally planning to fly with LanChile to Madrid, we're worked out that our plans will involve too much driving so we're now focusing on flights to Malaga. Looking at the scheduled carriers, i.e. Lufthansa, Air Berlin, Iberia, flight prices are high. The LCCs (Ryanair, easyJet) only have outbound flights, Malaga doesn't appear to have been loaded for November yet. My questions:

- Is this due to the summer/winter timetable switch?
- If yes, when should I expect flights to be visible/bookable?

Thanks for any input!

Best

For LCCs from Germany (not the U.K.) Malaga, indeed, is a summer destination. A number of hotels on the Costa del Sol close 31-OCT.
Swiss flies year round from ZRH.
Lufthansa usually flies Saturday and Sunday from either FRA or MUC, sometime both.

Air Berlin serves AGP only via its PMI hub. However, AB is in the process of cutting back its domestic operations on the Iberian peninsula, gradually transferring flights to oneworld partner Iberia, Iberia Express, and also to Vueling.

If you still want to fly LAN Chile from FRA to MAD, consider to use the train from Madrid to Malaga. renfe.es has good offers for advance purchases. Still it will require a night to be spent in Madrid.
However it is not the city of Malaga itself you are heading for, or some place along the railway line that runs from Malaga to Fuengirola, you will need a rental car or take a taxi to your hotel.

Again: A number of hotels close 31-OCT, the remainder having fairly high rates in November as demand is still there.

tuifly.com might be one website to check for flights.

As you mention Seville, depending on what you intend to do, returning out of XRY can be an alternative option. Train station near the airport, but hardly any trains from Seville call. Rental car is recommended / essential.

@ HT

Many thanks. The search for the perfect connection continues. I didn't realize that AGP was so seasonal. In the UK, where I come from originally, AGP, Alicante and Faro are THE winter destinations, after Tenerife. I assumed this would be the case in Germany too.

Thanks again!
