First Flight-Dec 17th, 1903 (and A Stupid Seagull)

Mon Dec 17, 2012 5:29 am

One hundred and nine years ago the Wright brothers had the first motorized flight, piloted by Orville and lasting 12 seconds.

It is remarkable to think how far the field of aviation has come in 109 years. Anyone brave enough to make predictions for where we will be in another 109 years?

My local airport is having a facebook photo contest to commemorate the momentous occasion.

Please consider voting as many of the photos feature birds instead of airplanes, in fact the photo currently in the lead is of a seagull!

My photo is currently in second place and illustrates the amount of work that goes into making flight possible....

You can vote for several photos so lets try to get the photos that actually feature airplanes ahead of all the bird photos!
(I believe you have to like the airport facebook page before you can vote)

"Sorry, the offer you tried to access has ended."

Well, that didn't last long.

The airport had a problem....they had set the contest to end at 5, but the software took that to be 5 am instead of 5 pm. When they came into work this morning (around 9 am) the they caught the problem and fixed it....

SO voting is now open for about 4 more hours and I am about 20 votes behind the seagull so please consider voting! Thanks!
