VS19 LHR-SFO- Which Seating Configuration?

Tue Dec 25, 2012 12:41 pm

Which seating configuration does Virgin use to SFO? On their website there are at least three different configuration. Does VS base specific 744s out of LHR, if so which ones?

Also how does seat selection work on VS? Does one select the seats when booking the ticket or is it at time of check in?

The VS019/020 is always on an LHR configured B744 (G-VFAB, HOT, BIG, WOW, ROC). These are all J44 W62 Y261.

All of the leisure configured B744 are J14 W66 Y375 (Except G-VTOP, but that gets retired in a couple of weeks) During the transition there were also the older configurations of J14 W58 Y379 or 380, but there are now only 2 standardised configurations.

Seat selection is available 90 days prior to departure. On line check in is available 24 hours prior.

Okay, so those aircraft fly to LAX, SFO, NYC, MIA out of LHR.

What kind of IFE is there on these aircraft?

Too bad! Looking at the seat map there are only a few middle seats left, no window seats  . Does VS hold some seats that they release at check in or are all seats open for selection 90 days prior to departure?

The IFE Is the odyssey system (recently renamed Vera on demand) it's a great system.

They will only release a generic set of seats at -90 days. The rest will be available for online check in at -24 hours, except for the exit and extra legroom seats.

So there is still a chance to get a window seat?

Yes! There will be window seats still available, but all I can say is that the best chance of getting one is to check in online as close to -24 hrs as you can

Whilst on topic, why on earth did VS not make the upper deck all UC rather than make it a mix of UC and Y?

My dad flew back from SFO recently, he was un UC on the upper deck, thought it was pretty naff, the poor service etc too did not help.
