Humanitarian Aid Project

Tue Jan 22, 2013 5:01 pm

I am working on a Humanitarian Project and need to look into the best aircraft fleet.

With all you knowledge and experience which aircraft would you use for the following missions and why:

1. Heavy transport eg equipment and supplies into man made strips.

2. Medium / Light transport from above onto unpaved strips.

Many thanks

There are lots of carriers that use old Soviet cargo aircraft for missions such as these, be it humanitarian or military. I'd suggest you check with one of them. They may be the cheapest and most readily available. On top of that, old Soviet cargo aircraft are built like tanks! That's all the info I know. I'm 110% sure that someone on here will know much more than I do.

Good luck on your endeavors.

Man, you need waaaay more information that that -- approximate runway length? Flight distance? How much can you spend? I'd also consider asking on a specialized pilots forum -- this place is great, but not quite what you're looking for. Try PPRune or somesuch.

Quoting Lofty (Thread starter):
1. Heavy transport eg equipment and supplies into man made strips.

AN-125 if you don't have good ground equipment, 747F if you do.

Quoting Lofty (Thread starter):
2. Medium / Light transport from above onto unpaved strips.

Something like a C-295 or C-130 is great for this.

Tom.
