All Airlines That Operated A Certain Route

Thu Feb 07, 2013 9:40 am

A.Netters regularly ask questions about certain unique 5th Freedom operations, so I thought we might start a thread capturing ALL airlines that have operated a certain route.

To start I will attempt an overview of all airlines + aircraft type that have operated LHR - AMS at any one time.

- KLM - since 1920 - every aircraft in their fleet.
- British European Airways - upto 1978 = Viscount, Vanguard, Merchantman, Comet, Trident, BAC111
- British Airways - from 1974 = Trident, L1011, VC10, B757, B767, B737, A320series
- British Midland - from 1980s to 2000s = DC9, B737, A320series
- PANAM - from 1950's to 1980s = B707, B727, B737, B747, B747SP
- TWA - 1986 = B747
- QANTAS - from 1960s to 1980s = B707, B747
- Singapore Airlines - from 1970s - 1990s = B707, B747
- Malaysian Airlines - from 1980s - 1990s = B747
- Air Malawi - 1980s - VC10 (to LGW) in here because it was rather special
- Gulf Air - 1980s-1990s = VC10, L1011
- VIASA - from 1970's to 1980s = DC8S, DC8
- TAROM - 1970s = BAC111
- LOT Polish Airlines - 1960s - 1990s = IL18, Tu134
- Kuwait airlines - 1980s = B707, A310, B767
- Nigeria Airlines - 1980s = DC10
- Bangladesh Biman - from 1980s to 1990s = B707, DC10
- Pakistan Airlines - 1970s = B707
- Air India - 1970s - 1980s = B707, B747
- Thai Airlines - 1980s = B747-200

Please add other great 1st to 5th Freedom examples, I am sure I have missed a few!!

Oddly enough, I have been compiling a list for the SEA-PDX market for several months, with links to substantiate the service, mostly via departed flights. I know there most likely are a few I missed. marked with an * are ones I personally flew. The best part of this route was, the huge variety of aircraft, lots of heavy metal, ant the fares stayed very low.

RE: All Airlines That Operated A Certain Route

Hi everyone.

Quoting factsonly (Thread starter):
I thought we might start a thread capturing ALL airlines that have operated a certain route.

I'm not sure if this is what are you looking for.
This is the list of airlines flying the route between Singapore (SIN) and Jakarta (CGK). It is one of the most frequent route I've flown and the route itself was the busiest out of SIN for the past few years.

Current airlines:

(1.) Singapore Airlines : B772, A333. (A310, A345, B747)
(2.) Garuda Indonesia : B738. (B747, DC-9, A300, A332)
(3.) Philippine Airlines : A320
(4.) Turkish Airlines : A332
(5.) Lion Air : B739
(6.) Sriwijaya Air: B735
(7.) Air Asia: A320
(8.) Tiger Airways: A320
(9.) Valuair (Jetstar) : A320

Aircraft are in the brackets are equipments they use prior to usage of current equipments

Airlines that had discontinued SIN-CGK route:

(1.) Batavia Air : A320
(2.) Lufthansa : B744, A343
(3.) Cathay Pacific: B772, A333, B747
(4.) Air France : B747, B772
(5.) KLM : B747
(6.) Sempati Air : F27
(7.) Emirates : B772
(8.) Qatar Airways: B77W

Please note that these are based on my memory and certainly I've missed few.
Do add some carriers that I've missed or fix if there's errors, but so far I hope this helps.

That's great work. Are you sure that Pacific Northern flew into PDX? Other than the line on that timetable map, I don't recall ever seeing any evidence that they flew to anything other than SEA in the lower-48.

HKG-Tokyo once had a very large number of 5th freedom services, often just 2 or 3 times a week, especially in the days when most flights between Europe and Japan made multiple stops across Asia. Current and previous operators below total 21 and I may have missed a couple.

Current HKG-NRT/HND operators:

Cathay Pacific
Japan Airlines
ANA
Delta
United

Others that once operated HKG-NRT/HND:

Pan Am
Northwest
CP Air
Alitalia,
KLM
Swissair
Lufthansa
Air France
British Airways
BOAC
Singapore Airlines
Malaysian
Thai Airways
Garuda
Air India
Qantas

From photos on the Anet db, there were Garuda F-28s and Sempati Air B732s, F100s in Changi. Not entirely sure if they were from CGK, but may well be.

Also, added in some additional infos/made some edits to your list above. (From 2001 onwards)

Not sure if this would be considered 5th freedom, but DL currently operates AMS-BOM, GUM-NRT, GUM-KIX, GUM-NGO, NRT-SIN, and many NRT-China routes.

Routes to/from GUM aren't 5th freedom for a U.S. carrier since GUM is a U.S. territory. AMS-BOM, NRT-SIN and NRT-China are 5th freedom.

Canadian Airlines also operated BKK-HKG for a few years using both DC-10-30 and then 747-400, with 5th freedom rights. The aircraft overnighted at BKK on the YVR-HKG-BKK route.

Thank you, I meant to include Canadian! Speaking of, did CP Air fly BKK-HKG too?

BKK service started September 24, 1987, about 7 months after CP Air had become Canadian. Wikipedia lists BKK as a CP Air destination which appears to be an error.

You can also add Dragonair from ~ 2003 to 2008, with (according to the database); A320, A321 & A330.

The route; EZE-BSL was operated by AR and then discontinued I dont see it coming back any time soon.-
Also EZE-LUX was flown by SU when they served Argentina.-
EZE-CPT was flown by MH till 2010 i guess.-
