Questions About Flying UA To Honduras

Fri Feb 15, 2013 7:18 am

Hi, in March I'll be going to Honduras as part of a college medical brigade and I'll be flying UA for the first time. I do have a few questions and was wondering if anyone could provide me with some answers:

1.) Since US and UA are both Star Alliance members, if I give them my Dividend Miles account number at check-in will that be sufficient to get the miles for those flights credited to that account?

Similarly, this is a little off-topic, but in July I'll also be going to Europe with my family. I understand that because of the merger with AA, US is going to be leaving the Star Alliance. Do you think they'll have left by July or should the mileage reciprocity still work by then? I'm not sure who we'll be using for that trip, it might be LX, LO, UA, LH, or SK. On the other hand, if I were to book the flights under my accounts on either UA's or DL's website, would I get miles for everyone traveling?

2.) I asked the students who are in charge of the trip about getting window seats on the flights, but they said its out of their control since the organization sponsoring the trip used a travel agency to book the flights. In case I'm not assigned a window seat, what are the chances that I can still get one at check-in?

3.) Our routing for the outbound leg is PHX-DEN-IAH-TGU, though we don't get into IAH until a little after midnight and the flight to TGU doesn't leave until 9 AM. I know its going to be the dead of night but does anyone have any suggestions as to anything I should check out or do while I'm there? This is going to be the first time I've had to spend the night at an airport.

4.) Does anyone know if the airport in Tegucigalpa has free wifi?

Thanks!
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

Get a room at the airport Marriott, right between Terminal B & C. There are also a few hotels near the airport such as Hilton Garden Inn which may be less pricey. Check out the IAHsection on the Houston Airport System web page and look for hotels. Your flight the next morning could depart from Terminal C or E, but most likely it will be E.

If your ticket was booked through US with your account number on the reservation then your account should be with UA reservation. If in doubt, call the UA reservations folks and have them verify and if not ask them to attach it to the itinerary.

IMHO, things won't move quite that fast, but keep a close eye on media releases to be certain.

Have a fun safe trip and enjoy the arrival into TGU!!
