Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:27 pm

When will LAN and TAM fusionned airlines will officially make the decision on the prevailing alliance? So far , passengers are waiting for a very long time to have their miles credited from one airline to another.

While it may not be official, the prevailing wisdom says that OneWorld is the decision.

LAN and TAM have to give up one of the two alliances. It seems that LAN or TAM could simply exit the alliance without joining another

As joacocifuentes already stated: TAM will leave Star. Reason: Star is now already in bed with AviancaTACA and the alliance would dominate Latin America with the addition of LATAM.

The regulators who permitted the LAN-TAM merger mandated that TACA/AVIANCA and LATAM can't be in the same alliance and as TACA have joined Star, TAM has to leave. I guess as others have observed before, LAN could stay in OW and TAM could remain non-aligned. Time will tell -but I would like to know!

Is this merger across different world alliances a unique case and does a regulatory time frame exist on a decision over this matter?
